Just getting more and more confused. Thought one of you might have one you really like. I don't want one that's battery powered since I've read the battery only last 4-5 hours. We have an old TomTom right now but want to upgrade. Heard that Garmin is the best but they're all battery.

Help! Please!

We have the Garmin nuvi. (?) We are having challenges keeping the battery last. Not sure if it

our car or ?. It's dh's, I am not in the complete know, but we had challenges using it for our vaca. It worked well when we first got it, but over the last 6 mos seems to have shorter time. (Again, we may be doing something wrong). Dh commutes to the city, so it is not a huge priority for us, only used for long excursions.....

I purchased it on Amazon, and did lots of research at the time...It was the best deal even compared to local stores. They could not match the price.

I know this may sound silly, but you may want to check if GPS is available on your phone. I would guess that you may be able to upgrade and have the application. Just a thought..

Best,
Barb

I have the Garmin Nuvi 765T and love it!! Not sure what the battery issue is since...

mine is plugged into the cars accessory portal (where the cigarette lighter used to be). The battery is being recharged while it's plugged in.

The "T" stands for traffic. It tells you if there are accidents or slow traffic on your route. With this Garmin there is no extra charge.

The Garmin tells you when to turn and is the only maker (as far as I know) that actually names the street: "In 300 feet turn right on Central Avenue" instead of "In 300 feet turn right". Love this! It shows the speed limit and the speed you are traveling. It also shows what lane you need to be in and if you will be turning right or left. Really love this feature!

I got the Europe map and took it to Paris with me. I also got a language translator and down loaded Rick Steve's walking tours of Paris.

Did I mention that I love this gps? Well I do!

Any other questions?

You can change the voice to several canned ones and they even have a free downloadable program that lets you record your own directions. I did this for Ed. My voice: "Oh, for gods sake Ed, make a u-turn, now!" Scared the hell out of him.

Michael, I will need to have my car checked. (Or the Garmin) For some reason, it kept having the

battery "run low" while using recently. We do not use ours frequently, so not sure if it is our car or the Garmin. I also do not have the lighter to check out to ensure the car accessory portal is working properly.

We ended up recharging it with dh computer (Nice feature)
We also have the 765T. George has "fun" entering the locations of where we are heading.... ie instead of gps saying something like, "Your have reached Mom's house", he will program it so it will say "You have reached Adult Book Store or You have reached Chocolate Milkshake" You get the idea. His silly sense of humor!

If you happen to recall, would you be able to link the program re: your voice. I would love to get even with him!!

Best,

Barb

Barb, it's called Voice Studio. When you turn off the car...

be sure you don't hit "leave on". Ed did this once and his battery ran down to nothing because his accessory outlet is not active when the car is off so the gps stayed on battery all night. It would not turn on right away. He had to charge it for several hours.

I love a silly sense of humor!!

Reminds me of reading not to program your address in as home, because if your car is stolen, they

know where you live, that you're not home, and they have the garage door opener.

I heard this too, but then I thought, I'm required to keep my registration

in the glove compartment and that has my address on it I wouldn't sweat my home address in my gps.

I tap the "Home" icon even when I'm just coming from work for two reasons: 1. Lets me know the traffic situation and 2. I'm just too lazy to keep track of where I am on I75 but the gps will tell me when I need to be in the right lane (instead of going 90mph in the left lane).

Depends on the features your nuvi has. If it doesn't have the turn directional or

speed limits I would update. These are so incredibley useful I can't imagine being without them.

Ed has an older nuvi that doesn't heve these...guess what he's getting for Christmas?

I'm not sure what you mean. "She" says "in 1/3 mile turn left on Main Street", which makes me happy

I don't care about speed limits, I don't speed. I don't think she tells me about traffic.

On the newer ones there is an icon in the upper left corner that indicates which lane you need to be

in for your next turn. I find it very helpful. Especially on 6 lane highways that split off in multiple directions.
