I have an elderly friend who is mentally and physically disabled. She has limited use of her hand and fingers but enjoys writing her name, coloring etc. I'm trying to find paint with water books or coloring books (that type of easy crafty thing) that is age appropriate. Everything I can find (even on cerebral palsy or mental retardation type sites) is geared toward little ones. I'm thinking there MUST be something like this out there and I just can't locate it.

Anyone?

Hi Cyn - Just last week I saw a coloring book of stained glass angels...

In an upscale children's toy store. It was published by Dover Publications. Check out the link below. I didn't see the angel one, but they have plenty to choose from. Try to find out the size of the books, because some can be quite small (the angel one was big). Customer service there might be able to give you more information. Also, Crayola has some nice colored pencils that have nice, vivid colors. They (Crayola) also now have erasable crayons - for the perfectionist in all of us!

God bless you for helping your friend stay busy and involved.

I just checked. www.doverpublications.com has masses of coloring books, stained glass, ......

kaleidosocpes, etc. I fogot how wonderful Dover is.

A few years ago, for a children's Christmas party at a local hospital, I helped assemble...

350 "coloring books" from coloring pages downloaded from the internet (it's free, just downloaded pages of interest then photocopied the sets). Thinking there must be downloadable similar pages for adults I just tried googling "coloring pages for adults" and came up with this site which may be of interest to you (click the link). Maybe you could assemble a booklet of pages for your friend.

you might try contacting an occupational therapist or a rec therapist through

a hospital or a home care office - they may be willing to share sources/ideas.

You may not be able to find them with water but how about using washable ....

markers or big soft crayons like pastels or oil crayons? Both are blendable with the fingers for special effedts.

I can't remember the name of the actress but, she was at disney world and

was buying some souviners in the gift shop. she wanted to get one of the hats that they embroider your name on. it was for her boyfriend or husband.

well, the gentleman's name was Dick and they refused to embroider his name on the hat, telling her it was vulgar. since it's a common name, the actress protested and they finally called security and tossed her out of the park.

everyone was rolling when she told that story!
