Totally NRFC: Anyone buy a new mattress recently? Insights?

I am looking for the same thing. I am a side/back sleeper and my husband can sleep on anything. . .

And there are SO many choices out there; he tells me to get what is comfortable for me. I would try a "shipped" mattress, but I am leery of the smell (out-gassing) that can come with some of the foam/gel mattresses. We tried a memory foam mattress topper last year and we returned it in a couple of days because the smell (to me, didn't bother my husband!) was soooo bad.

There is a local family-run mattress store that I think we will be checking out soon. They sell all sorts of mattresses and sell the old-style turn-and-flip-able innerspring mattresses.

What a pain. All I can say is don't try a "shipped" mattress unless they have a good return policy. Make sure you understand return policies of major manufacturers when you try mattresses in store; there are a lot of ups and downs. Go and try LOTS of mattresses locally if you can to see what you like. Ask lots of questions about how they are built, what they are made out of, ask about out-gassing, Be aware that just about any mattress will feel firmer at first and will soften with some time. Also note that what will feel comfortable in a store may feel less comfortable than the new one you will have put in your house.

Good luck to you, and good luck to me!

We have had a Temperpedic for years and love it. Firm, and I bought the one that

raises the head and feet. Never have used the vibrator.
. Now, I have heard that the sleep number bed is excellent, you can adjust for all sorts of things. The newer ones do it in the smart mode. Detects if you snore or toss and turn. Above all, go to a local mattress store and try them out. Do not order online. Take an afternoon, and take a rest on them, so important.

Consumer Reports has a very recent review of mattresses. By the way, I

Bought a twin mattress for a new day bed on line and it is the most comfortable mattress I have slept on. Granted, it is in a guest room and used rarely.

I just checked my Amazon orders. I bought it in 2015. It is called Signature Sleep 8" twin mattress

It is now $144.69. As I said, it is in a guest room and used infrequently but those who have slept on it, including me, praise it. It gets good reviews on Amazon.

I sell mattresses by the truckload (semi-truck) to discount mattress stores across the country.

We sell loads of mixed brands... all the major "S" brands... familiar names.

The key is finding a store that lets you lay down on the mattress and test it out. And don't be in a hurry. Take your time. Check the "comfort guarantee" the store provides so you know how long you can sleep on it at home and still return it if you don't like it. It varies from store to store.

That being said, I know that the Sealy/Stearns and Foster mattresses sold at Costco are some of the best available. Costco specs these models with Sealy and the materials/construction/comfort level is HIGHER than what you get at the major bedding stores who sell that brand. Plus, their return policy is very generous! If you know what you like and can find it at Costco, you really can't go wrong.

Tip: Make SURE your foundation/box spring is in good working order. A new mattress is only as good as the foundation it sits on!
