I divied up the batter into 3 6" pans and my two mini-bundt pans. Split the 6" layers in half. Decided to go with the full-scale model today as I need experience working with fondant.
Got the height I needed with only 5 layers of cake iced with fudge icing on perimeter, white buttercream icing inside layers. After the messy cutting was done, I crumb-iced the entire thing with fudge icing.
I blew up the W-S image to it's full size (6" dia by 4.5" high + stem). Then I ruler-ed off lines to see where the curves started. The toothpicks mark where I cut the cake to curve it. Diameter of the pumpkin at its widest is 6".
I used an apple corer to make the grooves. Messy and I'm sure there's an easier way to do it. Like buy it directly from Williams-Sonoma.

It didn't turn out too bad....tinting the fondant orange could have gone darker, but hey, it's cake. Who cares.
I have no leaf-shaped cookie cutters, so I grabbed a silk leaf from some fake grapes and pressed it into the green fondant to make impressions. Then I cut out the edging with an X-acto knife.
This one will go to the library tomorrow so I'm afraid I can't give you an inside cut.
