Totally, utterly NFRC: Lyrics and film clip from the movie August Rush

The movie is about a young child separated from his parents at birth. His connection to music is the thread that he believes will allow him find them again. He's living on the streets of New York and meets a young girl.

I absolutely love this song and the little girl singing it. Jamia Simone Nash is 10 here and has been singing since she was 6. I can't find the lyrics anywhere, so I've listened to the trailer and copied them as best as I could.

Hope the rest of the movie holds up to this clip.

The film clip uses QuickTime.

“Raise It Up” lyrics from the movie “August Rush” out November 21

(opening lyrics are too distorted to understand)

Far too many pressures in reality

Dealing with the stress and pain and poverty

And I got to be myself because...

there’s nobody else for me, no

Chorus:

Hang in there with me

Sometimes it takes a different kind of love to raise a child

So don’t give up

So don’t give up

When pressures come down

Sometimes it takes a different kind of dream to make you smile

So raise it up

So raise--

Hang in there with me

Sometimes we need another helping hand to show the way

So don’t give up

So don’t give up

When pressures come down

Sometimes it seems impossible

That’s why we pray.

So raise it up

We pray.

(solo)

Seems to be nothing left for me

Momma’s gone

Daddy didn’t want to be

Now I’m all by myself

Wondering where is love

Or should I just give up...you know

(solo)

Life falls down on me

Cuts into my soul

But I know I’ve got the strength to make it through it all

‘Cause I’m still standing tall

Breaking through these walls

I’m going to get my own—

Feeling like a motherless child

Hate cuts into my soul

It bending me down

Can’t find the smile on the face of a motherless child

Gonna break down these walls

Gonna get my own

You know...

Ya, ya, ya, ya.

Hang in there with me

Sometimes it takes a different kind of love to raise a child

So don’t give up

So don’t give up

When pressures come down

Sometimes it takes a different kind of dream to make you smile

So raise it up

So raise it up

Hang in there with me

Sometimes it takes another’s helping hand to show you the way

So don’t give up

So don’t give up

When pressures come down

Sometimes it seems impossible

That’s why we pray.

Excellent, Marilyn, I loved the song, and the movie sounds good.

I almost almost love anything with Robin Williams in it. Well, at least enjoy it.

Wow - what an amazing little singer she is! Wish I had lungs like that... and could carry a tune!

MarilynFL, What a voice! I have been waiting for this to be released. We

saw a preview several months ago and I absolutely love Freddie Highmore (the boy), he was in the film "A Good Year," with Russell Crowe and I think is just so talented. Can't wait to see this.

Marilyn, did some additional research...Linked is a website for youth leaders, educators & families

on how to maximize the teaching moments of this movie. Thanks for your post. I have sent your link as well as the one attached to my sister, who is a 2nd grade teacher. I am sure she will love it!!

Raise it up!!

Regards,
Barb
