Here's what I adjusted for my own needs:
Left out the garlic because sometimes garlic makes my tongue burn and right now my tongue and I are getting along fine.
Didn't have crushed chile de arbol so I used a TBL of Morroccan Harissa as I know the level of its heat. (2 TBL of crushed chile de arbol can be substituted with 2 TBL of red pepper flakes...an amount that would blow the top of my head off like a Roman candle.)
Had thawed chicken broth so I used that instead of water.
Left off the raw scallions at the end because sometimes they hold my tongue hostage as well.
When it was done, I pulled out two servings and heated that with a drizzle of cream. Topped with a heavy squeeze of fresh lime juice, cilantro and Georgia roasted peanuts.
Yum!
Not sure what texture Flour ends up with the butternut or what size they mean by "diced" but mine were 1" cubes and took 45 minutes to reach "soft, but not mushy" stage...a highly technical term describing the way I like it.
Next time I'm going to try it without the cream.
And then I'm going to try it with coconut milk.
And then I'm going to propose to it.
Another winner for you, my dear.
