Ugh. Note to self: when you bake tamales in enchilada sauce...

Steam first, in the wrapper, until hot. Unwrap, then plate, covered with hot enchilada sauce.

Finish with grated cheese over the top. You can pop them under the broiler for a minute or so to melt the cheese, if you like, but the hot enchilada sauce usually melts the cheese sufficiently.

Sounds like you got an unintended version of tamale pie!
