For those who go far back enough to have been reading my posts over a year ago (yikes) as the wandering baker and then continuing on as the builder baker, I thought I'd take a few moments to update for anyone who's interested.....
The building is going well. We've had many uhm..adventures, but I've decided I'm through with adventures now and will have smooth sailing until opening which is hopefully mid-oct. I still have much to do though; some sheetrocking and then finish work on the walls; all flooring to be laid except for one room, some electrical, all plumbing, trimwork, finish the rockwork outside, finish the patio, tear down the little house and lay the pavers in the parking lot.
The health inspector came by for the first time last week at my invitation. He was pleasantly surprised at the scope of things and after talking to him about the equipment I'd bought that wasn't NSF, but was commercial and the newer models were NSF he said to write a narrative and after looking at them if they were up to snuff he'd approve them. Woo Hoo! We're talking $4000 of equipment I'd been told I couldn't use. That was a banner day.
I think the main floor bathroom is going to be one of the most fun rooms...go figure... The door is 8' tall and will have 'Throne Room' stencilled on it. The wall as you walk in on the left will be a mock cut-away stone wall. About 5' up there will be an apple tree growing out of the wall. On the wall facing the door will be the sink which has a beautiful black granite top. Above the sink will be an oval mirror flanked by two dragon sconces holding light globes hanging from their mouths. On the wall opposite the tree it will have the 'mirror mirror' saying painted on it. The commode is black and has a lid that has a medieval style cross on the top and chain mail embedded in the seat! Behind the toilet will be a cut out of a throne. The flooring will be a black granite with gold and green veining through it. Who said bathrooms had to be boring! For those who don't know, the name of the bakery is Heather's Fairy Tale Bakery, hence the fairy tale theme.
I finally got resolution from the 1250 sf of antique flooring that arrived damaged; they sent a batch of similar wood that although isn't the same, is equally pretty. The dishwasher finally got fixed from the truck fire, and the second oven is being fixed from it's shipping problems as well. Now my only battle is with the walk-in people trying to solve their selling me a walk-in that they said was only 3 years old with the manufactured plate on the walk-in that says 1994.
I've hired a cake decorator already and she's been working with me for the last 2 months - building! I figured if she could make a level cake she could building a level wall and she could and did. She's a gem. We took a few days off to go to the ICES show in Dallas. That was great fun running around with over 1200 rabid cake decorators.
I hope you all are having a good summer. Looks like this board is just as wonderful as the old one used to be.
Guess I should go do some painting.....
