Update on Meryl's gift

I was looking online to order the flowers when I saw a condolence basket of candy. It just seemed so "Meryl" that I selected that instead of flowers.

Gift card says:

Dear Meryl, Please know you have our deepest sympathies and that you are in our hearts and thoughts at this sad time. Always, your friends at eat.at/swap.

At the same moment, I received a $50 Amazon gift card at work for a small task I did for someone.

I really loved Janet in NC's idea to make a memorial contribution to a food bank. Therefore--if you are so inclined--rather than sending me $5 to pay for this gift (which is already paid for by the unexpected work gift card), make a $5 donation to some organization or fund-raiser with kind thoughts for Meryl and Lou.

here. Thank you for your generosity and giving to a food bank is a wonderful idea and I will do that. However, John's job is being moved to Reno and Monday is his last day so I must watch $$. I wonder if pooling $5 together on this might even do more and go farther for such things as Food Networks Ending Childhood Hunger? I will do what ever everyone else decides to do. My heart is full of sorrow for Meryl and wish I could help her find strength for this.

Thanks so much Marilyn. I am sending a donation today to the Interfaith Food Shuttle. In addition

to collecting food in the usual way they are on call to pick up the extra food from corporate meetings, wedding receptions, large Christmas parties etc and take it to area food kitchens to be served the next day. One of the other good things they do is the Backpack Program which sends non perishable food home on weekends with school kids who's only real meal is the school lunch.
