Very interesting article in NYTimes re: supermarkets, what they are doing to lure us in.

The start of the article makes me go "Grrrrrr!!!"

If she didn't want Wheat Thins, why'd she buy them just because they're on sale? No wonder obesity is a growing problem...

Anyway, you know what would lure me into the supermarket more often? Local and/or SEASONAL produce. Not pale-pink hard-as-a-rock tomatoes from the other end of the continent, not chewy, tasteless asparagus from Peru in January, not rhubarb in August you can tie bows in it's so soft, not year-round strawberries that are bred to be huge, not to taste like strawberries ... I want food with flavour! I want food that comes from nearby so it still tastes good! (My oh my, I'll be in Italy in one week, where people care about these things.) Supermarkets don't seem to get that message. They're only interested in raking in money ... as in selling Wheat Thins to people who didn't even know they wanted them! (End of rant)
