Was I just stupid? (wait...don't automatically say Yes!). I was at Bed, Bath & Beyond and saw

a portable induction plate for $70. And I (of course) had a 20%-off coupon.

The last time I checked on these things (a few years back) they were $200. So...what happened? Am I that slow on technology improvements...or did I just get suckered?

It would be perfect for luncheon parties here at work. I hate having to make something that can only be reheated in our microscopically small microwave.

I CONFIRMED with the girl at the BB&B counter about returning it should it turn out to be El Crappo and she said that as long as I have my receipt--I can return it by the end of FOREVER and still get my cash back. We taped the receipt to the box before I left the store.

Sounds like a great deal to me, but I'm just one step

above a wood stove ) Sounds perfect for intended use.

I paid about $70 a few years back and I love it! However, not all pots and pans work on induction

units. I got a new carbon steel flat bottom wok because my new stove is electric smooth top and I thought it would work great on my induction unit. The wok's bottom is not as flat as I thought it would be once it's heated. Oh. well.

Mar, will they let you use it at work? Our "Safety cops" would be all over it... Just sayin

I could see the situation, they would call in using the "one Adam 12.....one Adam 12....we have a situation" code on their walkie talkie... Then conference room would be swarmed by very excited safety people who would talk non stop about the incident with their co-workers, primarily to reinforce why their dept should not be impacted by personnel cuts.....They saved the co from a huge fire.... (They may have even shown up w/ their firehats on)

I think they are quite safe since the element does not heat up--just the pan.

If Barb's army shows up you can have them all touch the burner.

I dunno nobody balked at my grill/griddle pan at work

I mean they bring in sterno to these places. As long as it is used safely and not overloading a circuit or something you should be fine. Our chef even borrowed mine to do some Iron Chef or FoodTV type thing so I'm sure the safety police oversaw that.
