Was speaking with a group of med techs and nurses yesterday and the subject of breakfast came up.

I had eaten a very nourishing breakfast of coffee, an apple and a forkful of cold spaghetti. Someone else had a meatloaf sandwich. Another was yogurt, banana and cereal (we hated him). Do you guys eat healthy in the morning and what was your strangest breakfast?

Yes, I usually eat a fresh fruit breakfast, sometimes with a handfull

of dry cereal. We eat whatever fruit is in season, usually three to four different types. Today, it will be cantaloupe, oranges, apples, and whatever else the Farmer's Market has. My most weird ones (to some folks) are the leftovers from the night before. I especially love cold green beans, cooked with onion and tomatoes. I've been know to eat a stuffed cabbage roll, cold. Leftover tomato and bread salad is another fave.

Most often it's last night's leftovers. Strangest would have to be mexican fruit loops...

...(fruti lupis) with mexican beer poured over.

Don't ask.

Michael

PS: Or is that, Froot Loops and Frooti Loopis? Yeah, that looks right.

Two scrambled eggs with peppers, onions and mushrooms usually or

cereal with low fat milk or a good hunk of fruit. If I don't have time to sit down I eat a couple slices of apple with peanut butter on them (just peanuts and salt). I am not Ms. Goody-two-shoes generally but after dieting for several months I am careful about what I eat.

My strangest might have been cold pizza and milk....or possibly cold veggie soup. Well, there was leftover stuffed green peppers and then some leftover popcorn from the day before.

I try to eat healthy, or at least to keep me going until lunch, so half a sandwich, or an apple w/

peanut butter usually does the trick. Anything with a low glycemic index is great for this.

On Wednesdays, I have to be out the door by 7:00 am, so I usually breakfast on anyone who dares to speak to me, that morning. smileys/wink.gif

There's a bakery about fifty yards from my tram stop, though, so I occasionally supplement the healthy with...pastry!

For me it's Steel Cut Oatmeal

I try to make it the night before. Then heat it up with a bit of meal, in the morning, when I'm at work. I love to add a bit of chopped nuts and cinnamon.

If I get hungry mid morning, it's an apple or some string cheese.

Workdays it's a big egg white omelet (4-6 extra large egg whites)

and two slices of lower calorie multigrain bread. The eggs give me plenty of energy and keep me full for sometime.

On days I don't work its usually blueberries, banana, cereal, and vanilla yogurt all mixed together.

And on my pig out days - it's two HUGE multigrain (super dense) pancakes! (unfortunately these days are few and far between)

I'd have to say that leftover pasta WAS my strangest. But I normally eat what that

fellow eats. But with too much cream in my very strong espresso bean coffee.

Weekends are different.

I find that when I eat breakfast normally and then have lunch consistently, I lose weight. I think the body learns that it doesn't have to retain what it's given as more will be along soon.

I really like leftover dinner for breakfast, but I find that as I grow older I must. . .

becareful of what I eat or I will be ravenous in 2 hours or so, if I choose a poor breakfast. Poor for me is mashed potatoes, gravy and leftover meat. Also poor are sugary cereals, pancakes and too much white bread. I really like the generic cocoa puff type cereal, but I get sooo hungry after eating it.

What has been working well for me lately is a big bowl of 1-1/2 scant cups of Barbara's Shredded Oats mixed with 1/2 cup Uncle Sam cereal. This combo will stay with me and I will not feel hungry most mornings for 5-6 hours, sometimes longer. Another good one is old-fashioned rolled oats mixed with a few chopped walnuts, chopped apricots and some raisins, when I want something hot. And even if I have eggs and toast, I try to have some sort of dried fruit and nuts with it. Lasts longer.

No matter what it is, I try to have it include both protein and carbs. Usually egg(s)

and bread or oatmeal, but a lot of the time I just have whatever is leftover from the night before.

The strangest? Probably grilled tuna with a side of guacamole!

Does one cup of rose hip herb tea count as breakfast?

I cannot eat breakfast. Even tho I get up at 7am my body and digesting system is not awake until 10 am.
My strangest breakfast ever have probably been a couple of plums (sombody forgot to buy more tea...).

I try to have a good dose of protein

preferably with minimal carbs. This is the only way that I can keep my blood sugar under control for the rest of the day (hypoglycemia). I am also not usually hungry first thing so a glass of milk is all I can handle. Either that or, since being pregnant, I sometimes wake up ravenous to the point of weakness, so again I just grab milk or yogurt. A couple of hours later I'll have a real breakfast, either leftovers (none of the above sounded strange to me lol) or a couple of eggs with whole wheat english muffins (thanks to Trader Joe's smileys/smile.gif).

Strangest? Well, it's been a while but I've had beer for breakfast on occasion...

Hi Sky - did you knkow that milk has carbs too? Lactose. Although it is balanced

with protein and if you use 2%, some fat too. But I was shocked when the doctor told me it was a "substantial" source of carbs.

Just FYI in case you weren't aware.)
