Jacques needed a nap to recoup from all the family stuff so I picked Joe up at the hotel and we went to the bay front and walked around for a bit. then we stopped in a pub for a glass of wine and some fried calamari, just what we both needed.

I dropped Joe back the hotel and when I got home there was a bouquet of flowers at the front door. the card reads: Randi, Joe and Jacques, have a super good time today!!!! hugs, Nan

how incredibly sweet is that!

when Joe and Jacques arrived we opened a really nice bottle of Zin and just settled in together for a totally, low keyed, relaxing evening. it was so easy to hang together as Joe and I know each other so well. actually, even Jacques could quote Randi-ism's.... '-D

the escargot didn't have enough garlic (I know) for my tastes and lacked the omph I love so much. and, I have no idea what went wrong with the salmon in pinot gris cream sauce. the sauce just wasn't the usual and I was very dissapointed with it. early on, the reduction was sputtering and splattering and I've never had that happen before. I probably should have tossed it and started over.

oh well, it was more about the company anyway and the company couldn't have been better. Jacques is just great, interesting and funny. it was just grand to finally get to meet him. oh, love the accent! smileys/smile.gif

you probably won't hear from Joe til tomorrow as they arrive home early evening tonight and need to decompress and make up to Squeaky for leaving him for a week.

Sounds wonderful in every way...even if the food didn't quite live up to expectations

because the company did!

Hugs,
Deb

Joe brought me some of his home made peanut brittle. dang that's good stuff! I haven't had peanut

brittle in years and I've certainly never had any that good.

Here I am! Stranded at the Holiday Inn at the Portland Airport. We missed our flight...

..just had too much fun driving up the coast on a beautiful sunny day and underestimated how long it would take to get back to town on winding country roads. Pizza with Keith Olberman in our hotel room tonight will be a far fall indeed from dinner with Randi at her beautiful home.

Randi's salmon was perfect. Jacques cleaned his plate and then finished mine--I left just a little because I had pigged out on the snails, which were also perfect. Keep in mind that Jacques is French, and the French don't clean their plates unless they really mean it.

Randi was dressed to kill and DAMN!, my camera batteries died the moment I arrived. We took some photos with Jacques' phone and once we learn how to get them onto a computer, which may take months, I will post them.

More later!

Hopefully you are home by now...

and will tuck yourselves into your own bed tonight.

Thanks for setting us straight into what a GREAT meal Randi served!smileys/smile.gif

Dang Joe - we just landed at the Portland airport this afternoon - hopefully you were home by then.

Having fun so far - had great burger at Stanich's tonight. I'm going to drive down and visit Randi on Wednesday

We were home by10:00 AM. What a near miss! I hear the sunny weather is holding for now...

We didn't really get to see the city, just spent time with my brother's family in Lake Oswego. I hear the restaurant scene in Portland is great. We went nuts over a French bakery in Oswego called St. Honore. Their original location is in Portland on Thurman Street.

Try to take in as much of the coast as you can on your drive down to Newport. If you run late like we did, Randi will be more understanding than Jet Blue.

Thanks. So far so good on the food

We hit Stanich's last night and had an awesome burger and fries. Hit the farmers market this morning - got some great strawberries we are snacking on now that we are back in the room. DH wishes now he had gotten more - I picked this one stand because I could smell them 10 feet away and yes they were that good too! We at a tamale from Salvadioran Molly'. I picked up this cool Taste the Place make it yourself cookbook from the market and DH purchased a few morels to take home and grind up to see if we can get some Oregon morels to grow since we already have morels growing on our property.

Then off to the Portland Saturday Market. I had to have a pupusa. DH had to buy me a pair of tie dye underwear with a heart on the back of them. And we bought some great pottery. I wanted more but just don't know how to get it all back safe and sound. Got the guys card just in case.

The hotel we are staying in is out on Hayden Island and is 'weird' but it's okay. Reminds me of an old tiki bar for some reason. I know they meant for it to be a 'wilderness lodge' themed resort hotel but it's tiki bar to me.
