where can I shop for a Holoku (type of dress) without paying a fortune for it?
From what I understand, the Holoku was adopted from American missionaries in the early 1820's. At the time, the Hawaiian women were wearing few clothes that were made of a soft tree bark. When they learned of the soft fabrics from America, they adopted the style of formal dresses with small trains. There is more history than this, of course, but won't bore you with details. I look forwared to any information you all have to share! TIA, Denie
