We made it!! Now just concerned about the upcoming Storm

We were so lucky compared to friends / family. We had a just a few trees down, so we were very lucky. Power, heat, internet came back last night. Much of our town is still out. (It has been very cold at night!) Hard to drive around. Trying to open schools on Monday. This has been quite the experience. My sister and MIL/FIL were told their power may not come up until after thanksgiving. My parents do not know when they will get theirs up either...

The generator was a huge help. We were the only one in our tea group that had one. We had many, many neighbors over to charge phones, watch a movie and micro / grill up some food. It was party central here. (Many nights we had 14 adults and 18 kids). BUT, seemed to lift friends spirits to have a place to go in the evening.

Lines are nuts for gas, although do seem to be improving.

Thanks so much for the emails and offers to help. Unfortunately, the library just opened yesterday, so we were without any internet access. Your kind words and sincere concern were heartwarming.

NOW, back to my kitchen and fun perusing the posts I missed!

Best,

Barb

Barb, it's so like you to turn an emergency into a fun gathering for neighbors. Bravo!

I hope your parents/in-laws get their power back soon. It can't be easy for elders in this weather.

Holy cow, 14 adults + 18 kids?! Heroic. (If you need an escape, we're right across the river.) smileys/wink.gif

Glad things are getting back to normal for you!

barb, so very glad to hear you are okay. Very nice of you to be party central...

I am sure it was also nice for everyone to gather together in rough times. It just seems to life everyone's spirits. I hope the rest of your family and neighbors don't have to wait too long to get back their electric. Do you know yet if you have grocery stores nearby that are up and running--I hope so!!!

So good to hear from you!

Wish I had known about you troubles. We could have worked something out.

Glad everything is working out

EDITED to say the WORST part was when we lost water. Seriously icky... Fortunately, it did not

last long, only 1/2 day. BUT, we were not prepared for that, and had to be very creative trying to find the purell, find the water bottles, etc. That was I think my breaking point.

Note to self: learn how to prepare for loss of water. We would have been ok with the toilet, I have chlorinated water that would help with the flush... BUT hand washing was a serious concern.

Tx Charlie, honestly, we were kind of stuck here. Trees blocking all access to highways. They

have not been running the trains / buses to NY. Thanks tho!
Offer much appreciated.

Remember, you have 55 gallons sitting in the hot water tank. And always

fill the bathtub...if for nothing else than to "force-flush" the toilets. Take this time to learn where the valve is on the hot-water tank to drain out some water.

Keep Chlorox on hand. A bit in water will help to purify. See link for specifics.

Have games, cards and crosswords available to keep busy.

Thanks! I knew you and others that have experienced this in the past would have some tips. Tx

Wet ones or baby wipes - that's what we used

Also lost power for 7 days here in NJ. And we have well water - so no electricity - no water. So we bought the shop rite brand baby wipes and a bottle of Purrel. Figured if it was good enough to get a baby's bottom clean it was good enough for our hands. The brand I bought had aloe in it so it moisturizer while cleaning. So we put one pack in each bathroom and one in the kitchen.

So glad you came through with very little damage...

other than the upheaval and all the bonding with the neighborhood. smileys/smile.gif

I hope your dear MIL gets power restored soon too!

These events can really try one's patience!

Stay warm and get through this week's storm!
