Mine started on Thursday with dinner with all the family actually together in Israel for a change. We ate at a wonderful restaurant. I had gnocchi with seafood and they had received lobsters so they added a 1/4 lobster to the dish.

Then dinner( reduced numbers - my son was off to a business course at Harvard.) at home on Friday night -

I made Ron's (where is Ron- I miss him) meatball minestrone soup. I also made a citrus marinated shrimp cocktail from Bon Appetit (recipe follows)

Crostini, marinated artichokes, turkey pastrami and arugula.

This is from Peg Bucholz of Fine Dining. She has great recipes. (www.finedinings.com)

Dessert was just a huge bowl of yummy strawberries.

Saturday's breakfast was at Abu Hassan - an Arabic restaurant in Jaffa noted for its humus. We ate breakfast at

9 and did not need to eat again till 7pm!! So yummy.

I then went to the TEl Aviv museum for a few hours with

my sister.

This was my birthday weekend and it was fun.

Today we are picking up my 13 yr. old grandson from

school and trying to convince him to have lunch on the beach as opposed to MacDonalds.!!

I have never made this myself but this is the humus dish
we had over the weekend. It is nothing like what you get in
the states.

Happy Birthday. That looks really good.

I have saved it and will give it a try when I have parsley in the garden. I love chick peas.

Happy Birthday Elaine. So glad you were able to spend it with

all your family. You didn't say how the shrimp was but I'm assuming you liked it so I'm making it tomorrow. Thanks

Elaine, please ignore above message. I just looked again and I

saw you said it is "absolutely delicious". It's in fridge although I don't have the cilantro. Hope it doesn't change the results to much.

We LOVE them! A keeper for sure and next time I will make sure

I have the cilantro. I think it would have just topped it off. Thanks for a great recipe.

do you taste the vodka? can this be served to those who don't drink alcohol? I'm thinking most of

it drains off, but was wondering about the flavor that might remain.

I don't taste it but it's not cooked so the alcohol isn't burned off. I'm

not sure if it would be all right for anyone who can't have it. There were a couple left over and I munched on them today and they were so good. I really taste the juice. I saved the marinade and I'm going to make some more shrimp this weekend and toss in it.
