I feel like I'm slowly coming out of cooking amnesia... Every weekend, I make one or two things that are not sandwiches, and that actually require a pan and a burner--or, even wilder and crazier, the oven.
Saturday
1. On Saturday mornings, J. takes our tot to the park so I can write. I had oatmeal and blueberries, because I've convinced myself that Bittman's "Vegan Before 6" (pm) will work for me. (Six pm is when Bittman figures most Americans eat dinner.) If I can just make it 'til 6, I can eat a few of the things I normally over-indulge in all day long. Unfortunately, 6 pm in our world is more like 9 pm.
2. On the vegan wagon (vagon? vegon?), tried a soy-milk latte. An acquired taste.
3. Bittman-vegan conversion (and the jury is still out on this thing) prompted by spontaneous consumption of two croissants in a row on Friday. And by "in a row," I mean "without coming up for air." Not pretty.
Sunday
4. For weekend lunches, we're usually out in the park, doing a takeout picnic. J. got Thai, and I had spring rolls with shrimp, mint, cucumber, rice noodles. Tasty.
5. Made an ad hoc salmon mousse to spread on baguette slices for dinner tonight. Side of kale (which was marked "mixed greens" on the bag) sauteed with garlic. (Dinner at 7! Hurray! I figured that eating every meal on the couch after M. went to bed, or napped, meant that she rarely sees us eating at the table, which can't be good, so on weekends, we push all the crap off our kitchen table and actually eat meals there, with placemats and napkins, as a reminder of how we lived, pre-baby.) smileys/wink.gif
6. I haven't seen rhubarb at our farmer's market yet... Is it in season on the East Coast yet? Feeling an urge to make a (decidedly non-vegan) rhubarb crumble.
Hope you all had a good weekend--
