Weekend Six

1 - DH made turkey soup: chili pepper flakes, celery, ginger, lime, and scallions - simple but very good (and just the right amount of salt)!

2 - sleep

3 - tv

4 - thinking of what to delegate to family to bring for Thursday - with sisters that buy mashed potatoes (because they're too hard to make) and already cooked squash at the store (ditto), it ain't easy

5 - drink more water

6 - more sleep/feeling much better now

My quiet six

Feel BETTER, Dawn!

Junior League of Austin's Wild Holiday Benefit this weekend! Tons of great and groovy stuff, too many people, rain, rain, and a DEAD battery afterwards! AARRGGHH

Picked up a pizza on the way home.

Made lists, lists, and more lists trying to get organized for all the kids and grandbaby to be here for Christmas!

Relieved that Thanksgiving is "out" this year - we are going to one of my cousin's golf club buffet.

Finally sunny today -- fired up the grill and grilled a beautiful Costco ribeye. Yum. Don't feel like cooking dinner, though. Especially after reading recipe after recipe narrowing down the cookie list! This week I have to get my cherry cakes done so they have time to soak up the applejack. I think I'll make an apricot-macadamia nut cake too.

How does tomato soup with saltines sound?

I forgot! I planted pansies in containers. Beautiful light blue and orange ones.

Here's our day so far...

Eggs with mashed potato pancakes & spinach/artichoke sauce.

Lunch: a cup of tea.

Mid-day: A mediocre summer roll and chicken bun served at a performance of JIGU! THUNDER DRUMS OF CHINA.

Lar's making Chile Chicken casserole right now, so hopefully our culinary life will improve shortly.

Not sure I even have Six...we'll see what shakes out

* Went to high school play to see former students in Arsenic and Old Lace. Fun to see them and get all those hugs! (I retired from teaching math in June)
* STILL sorting through school stuff brought home from school and figuring out what to do with it all. Getting ready for visiting family over Thanksgiving here.
* Made Spanish Lentil Soup to share at a babysitting co-op reunion (30 years ago when the kids were kid-lets)
* planning for Wed dinner here (gnocchi lesson to said kid-lets)
* last minute timing-planning for Thanksgiving Dinner, just the usual suspects, with twists. Like Blum's Coffee Crunch Cake

Oops! My Sunday Six

Shopped for veggies this morning.

Supervised Ian as he followed the recipe for Rump Roast in Beer. He's getting pretty good at this and needs minimal assistance.

Heated up homemade squash soup for lunch.

Called people to invite them for our annual Tourtiere Party on December 13. Reached nearly everyone.

Helped prepare veggies for roasting.

Enjoyed a very tasty dinner.

Weekend Six

1. List made, had to hit the commissary for groceries...

2. Finished the shopping 2 towns over after the commissary was out of stuff and had posted notes all over "sorry, there is a problem with our distributer and we should have fresh fruits and veggies before the holidays." They don't say which holiday...could be the 4th of July...

3. Fix batches of both kinds of dog food.

4. Turkey out of the freezer and into the fridge to thaw. (The odds of finding a fresh turkey around here...about as good as getting struck by lightening)

5. Turkey wings browned and simmered for broth.

6. Big batch of beef stew in the slow cooker.

Hope everyone is having fun getting ready for Thanksgiving!!!

Weekend Six

1. Nothing PTO related to do this weekend. Yay!

2. Gathering recipes for our Xmas eve appetizer fest.

3. I have been helping with the Holiday Shoppe, buying and such, and enjoying the company of the committee chair. A smart woman who is a physical therapist. It is so much fun buying presents with money other than your own!

4. Thanksgiving at the in-laws so all I have to do is bring; Cabernet Cranberries (requested), Vanilla Slice, and an appetizer. I am leaning towards either the Crab Dip that Meryl linked to or the Caviar-Egg Torte. Easy peasy!

5. Feeling healthy, hope everyone else stays so.

6. All the animals in safely for the night, night night.

My weekend six, last weekend before Thanksgiving!

and I got out of the house this weekend, it was great! Felt so good to be out in the sun and be around other people. Although I'm terribly paranoid whenever I saw anyone sneeze or cough I just about ran the other direction.

I am off tomorrow morning early to my family up in the Gold Country, the land of great food, 3 squares a day, lots of tlc and leaf raking. And, no cell service, wifi or good pc access. I will miss you all but it's only a week.

Yesterday I went out and shopped and got my train tickets, and took a long restorative nap and ate too much guacamole. A good day!

Today I slept in, took a mid morning nap - that's what Sundays are for right? - and made a killer mushroom and pancetta pizza. This time I let it cook a bit longer and the crust got really crisp, man that was good.

Then I packed for my trip. Do you think 1/2 suitcase of wine is too much? ;-0

I'm watching the Iron Chef finale and there are few dishes on there I would really want to eat. Those judges have to eat a LOT! how do they do that?

Off for an early bedtime, my shuttle bus leaves at 7 am! That is really early for me - silly huh.

Happy Thanksgiving, I will try to peek in and say hello during the week. Can't wait to hear what everyone is making...

My Weekend Six

1) We made Scandinavian sour cream waffels for breakfast and they were out of this world. I ate way more than I should have done.

2) Walked the dogs for one and a half hour to make up for the waffels. Came home and made brownies. I never learn, do I? smileys/wink.gif

3) We had roasted duck for dinner. It was so good. I had no idea what to stuff it with, so I used what I had on my hand: Onions and tart apples. It worked really well.

4) I was going to try a new recipe for Lebkuchen, but I just started reading the Stalin biography and I got side tracked. (That man was pure evil!) I was in Russia last year - hence my newfound interest for Russian History.

5) Came to think of it, I should make Borch soon. smileys/smile.gif

6) I'm taking the dogs to visit MIL tonight. I think I'll bring a cake. I bet I'll find a great one by doing a post search for Meryl's posts! *LOL*
