Starting this early and working backwards!!

Off this evening for a well deserved vacation in the States. (NYC for a day or so and then

Charlottesville Va for a book festival)

Invited my kids and grandkids to lunch - OUT!!

Just returned from getting a few last minute g items. My 15 yr old cat started peeing in the house yesterday so have to set up kitty litter

since no one else will be letting her in and out

10 times a night.

Spent Fri. cooking! Filled the fridge for DH.

Made lentil soup, corn soup, avgolomo. (he likes soup). Already had pea soup in there.

Also found enough food for 10 days!! There is

sofrito, chicken scnitzel and rice in spinach sauce, brisket and rice in sauce, meatballs,

and I don't remember what else.

Good way to clean the fridge.

Packed - we are in 65-85 degree weather so

it is hard for me to pack warm stuff. That is my excuse for taking too much.

Will try to peek in every so.....

Have a good weekend all

My weekend sucks . . . SIX! (Whoops, I did it again!)

This weekend is all about dinner for 8 tomorrow night.

Because a couple of these guests haven't eaten at my table before (hence, their ability to still move around on their own volition) I'm pulling out most of the stops so, the past few days and all day Saturday will be about prepping the following meal.

-Southern Cayenne-Rosemary Bar Nuts
-Endive w/Bacon-Pimento Cheese & Toasted Pecans
-Tarragon Deviled Eggs
-Wasabi Deviled Eggs
-Cheddar Linzers with Red Pepper Jelly

(Wines: Prosecco or Black Chook Sparkling Shiraz)

-Chicken, Shrimp and Andouille Gumbo
-Greens w/Avocado, Sweet Peas & Cucumber in
Buttermilk Dressing
-Rice Z'herbes
-Sourdough Batards (but if the sourdough goes terribly horribly wrong, as it is want to do, an Onion & Wild Rice Loaf)

(Wines:Turley Zin or Albarino)

-Key Lime Cream Pie

(Wines:Limoncello, Late Harvest Zin or Vintage Ruby Port)

Lipitor will be available on request. And so, let the conflagration begin!

NOthing sucks about this menu! Sounds great - I am going to ask for some of the rec. when I return.

You're making me hungry... curious, what are Cheddar Linzers with Red Pepper Jelly - I can guess

about the jelly, but what are cheddar linzers? Savory cookie? Have fun... then relax.

Week-end sucks...yup, having an agreement with Steve moment....

wish I could be a guest of Steve's.

* Dieting so miz, miz, miz.....'cause it means I dont go out and meet up with anyone!
* had folk over for a hearts night last night, as I am dieting we ordered in pizzas from Dominos. YES, yes they are awful and I am glad I was dieting (but I so wanted to cook something fun)
Fun night anyway as we only see these friends of 18 years once a year when they come here for a timeshare week.
* Am feeling very lonely and cut off....no one calls or suggests we go out...I might as well go and eat worms...well, I know everyone knows I am trying to diet till next week end...still! Thank goodness for the fun of everyone here, OH! and facebook!! smileys/smile.gif
* My squash partner is off to continue cruising so even my squash games have come to an end after 3 years...one month has gone by and I am getting stiff and old again.....I have started striding on the new strider...doesnt have the same impact as a hard game.
* Took the pup into be 'done' 3 weeks after his last visit..he has gained 4LBS even though we cut his food by half (is he taking after me?) Caught him eating compost, cats business and the chicken/duck pellets.
Gotta think of a way he cant get all this extra food(?)as he is far too fat!!!
* Want next week-end to hurry up as I am really wanting to cook that middle eastern meal (and eat it of course).
Damn hippy, hippy, shake, shake problems......

SO sympathize... started my diet (yet again) this morning and will be "out of the loop" 10 days

Isn't it amazing that everything we do revolves around food? If the girls want to go to lunch tomorrow (as we usually do), I'll go along and take my lemon/water in a thermos. Had to bow out of another lunch next Thursday. Pretty sad that it all revolves around food when so many people are starving, isn't it?!

Pup needs lots of protein - the lack of it is what causes them to eat that yucky stuff. Maybe he needs to be on the strider with you smileys/smile.gif

lol...we went to the beach for a good play this am........

pup of course got all sandy so a good rinse under the hose when we got home...and you know, when wet, he really is not so fat to look at, at all. He is getting puppy food bix only (vet's recommendation).....in a week, when I am slowly starting to (UM) eat/cook I will start giving him more protein and less bix....I give him an egg or two but I see the ducks eggs are missing from the nest so wonder if he is managing to find his way in and eat them.....dont think monkeys or iguanas eat them...could be rats but the shell is hard for rats....do you think mongoose/geese will eat the duck eggs.

My weekend 6 - taxes, a benefit, & crack pie

Well I started out early this morning but didn't accomplish as much as I wanted

Errands run - jewelers to get my ring he fixed; farmers market to get some fresh eggs, cheeses, & my favorite farmer was back so I got some winter squashes and bunches of greens - it didn't feel that cold when I left home but I was FREEZING after hitting the market; got the car cleaned even though it's about to rain - the inside was what really needed it; went to get the oil changed but it was too crowded so I have an appointment for tomorrow

Starting taxes today - need to get them done in the next week or so - it's always fun

Our favorite old catfish place relocated near us and is having their first every crawfish boil tomorrow at 2 - can't wait

A friend posted a pix of Momofuku's Milk Bar Crack Pie they ordered from NY and paid $90 for so I had to look it up & found the recipe so I have to make this if it was worth $90 to get one here.

Working a benefit - From Nashville With Love - with some chefs tomorrow night at the Nashville Farmer's Market

And oh - I have to get the house clean and get ready to feed a bunch - looks like I am hosting a bunch of my husband's OSU alumni and some students coming through town to do an alternate spring break at The Elephant Sanctuary about anhour and a half south of town. That's next Saturday. I'm going to smoke some pork and do pulled pork sliders and have everyone else bring a dish but getting everything ready AND working is the hard part.

Have fun, Elaine - my weekend six

1) Made Dianne's cream of broccoli cheese soup this a.m. I wouldn't recommend adding potato flakes as someone, forgot who, suggested. Now I have cream of potato soup with a little broccoli. Not bad, but not what I was aiming for.

2) Got complimented on my coffee today - it was instant ;o)

3) Made guacamole with really cheap avocados I bought last week, which were starting to get too soft. Love it on whole wheat mini pita pockets.

4) Friday night had a jungle-themed birthday joint party for DS and younger nephew. Hardly any of these were original ideas, but they were fun planning and making. We did invitations that looked like passports, a few small palm trees (we borrowed some from friends and relatives), gummy bugs and tropical granola in nylon net "mosquito netting" favor sacks, a couple of coconuts and pineapples (which didn't really fit the theme, but the kids didn't know that), made and took a banana cream pie, and then took a trip to the zoo. Fun planning it and the best thing is wasn't at my house.

5) Thinking of Easter already - that key lime cream pie that Steve2 posted sounded reeeeeally good.

6) Watching Titanic dvd again - did anyone else get the impression that the granddaughter was the daughter of a child that Rose and Jack had from the affair on the ship? Am I nuts?

You dieting girls have it all wrong. I have been to Weight Watchers twice in my life

and they "teach" you how to live a lifestyle, not diet. I always go out to eat when I am loosing weight, I do not change my social life at all. You can always order great salads at restaurants and ask that certain ingredients be left off, such as cheese.Take your own salad dressing, there are great ones that are low in calories. Ask for grill meats rather than fried. Yes, you can have that piece of sourdough, just don't add butter. Yes you can have a glass of wine, just make it last for the entire dinner. It is silly to deprive yourself of your friends or food. Choose wisely....eat slowly and NEVER tell anyone you are DIETING. It is an ugly word and never works for long. Make it a lifestyle change.

oh, joanie, you're talking to a city girl here! Mongoose? Geese? Iguanas? Monkeys? In Los Angeles??!

Karen! To me, life is about living and enjoying what you eat. I couldn't enjoy the

sourdough bread without the butter, or missing out on good fried chicken. I'm not into sacrificing flavor and doing without. I'd rather do fasts occasionally to drop a few pounds than to sit down at a beautiful table full of food and have to push half of it away. Works for me.

Weight Watchers? BLECH... I gained 5 pounds on WW and I followed it to-the-letter, never once cheating, although I was hungry all the time. At my weigh-ins, they just looked at me like I was a cockroach and loudly said "You HAVE to be cheating". After the third time, I left and never went back. I know my nemesis - carbs!

too funny about the coffee! My six

woke up to a sick dog. Not fun.

went to the Empty Bowl fundraiser for the Soup Kitchen. Such fun. Found a great bowl to take home and ate the "Pumpkin Chili". It was really just the Pumpkin Korma soup with light kidney beans added. quite good. I'll post the recipe. this was kinda sorta a second date---oh my---and we went on to shop at Costco, woohoo, hot date indeed! baby steps.

watching "When Harry Met Sally" and having a sloppy joe. was craving one today.

I'm so happy to have 2 big bottles of Costco vanilla, Tuscan Olive Oil and their balsamic vinegar again. I haven't renewed my card, so thanks hot Costco date.

remember to set clocks ahead

I'm so tired of winter.

You make cheese straw dough, cut into rounds. Before baking cut a 1" hole in the middle of every

other round. After baking, put a dollop of red pepper jelly atop a solid round then, top that with one of the cut-out rounds. (Like a Linzer torte, get it? I think the recipe came from The Magnolia Grill cookbook.) Purty durned tasty 2.

Lol, Chez...ditto.....giving myself that boost to start with and then will do pretty much...

as Karen says after......1 glass of wine all night just does not cut it for most occassions, admittedly for some, yes sure.
So no wine at all or as many as I feel like (Ha, this makes me sound like a wino, far from it.)

My husband eats what I eat and he gets thinner as I put on weight...only difference is he has a huge plate of oats and raisins every morning, I have a diet coke from choice, so I now-a-days make a point of breakfast.

My problem is all the diet cokes(from 12 a day, now down to 3 at the most)....my downfall. I know, I know but I have no other dietry vices....
