I really like Indian food and many use peas as a source of protein. I'm not sure when stuff changed, but I've HATED the peas in the last several dishes made. I've used Publix organic, Walmart organic, Birds Eye and Green Giant brands: all frozen because canned peas are never recommended.

Did frozen peas change somehow? I don't remember this being an issue from years back. I never had frozen peas until as an adult. Mom's home version was always canned Le Sueur peas. Sadly, those won't work. The BEST peas were the few sugar snap peas pods I got off my own scrawny bush, eaten hand to mouth before getting into the house. THAT is the taste I want for my Indian dishes.

I just spent ONE HOUR picking out the peas from the large batch of Cooks Illustrated Vegetarian Curry I made a few days ago.

ONE HOUR OF MY LIFE THAT I WILL NEVER GET BACK.

But I hated how they tasted in the stew and want the leftovers to be enjoyable.

Does anyone have a recommendation?

I've tried others. But, nope. I buy only Green Giant frozen. There are several subcategories. Summer Sweet, Sweetlets, Something Else......all starting with S and I can't remember what the last one was. I think they are all good, Canadian peas, but may not be the same thing that you get.

I used to make a lamb biryani using frozen peas (still frozen) and it was superb.

My garden treated me the same way....by the time I got to the house, the pods were gone and their interiors were in my mouth.
