What an utter waste of money: $14,500.00 dessert:

Unreal! My sister and her husband just received a girt certificate to Per Se

for $750. They were told that it should cover dinner for 2.

I told her at that price it would probably make me sick to eat there.

You know, Cyn, I rarely go out to eat anymore. The pickings here are so slim, and I find most

restaurants in general to be a disappointment and a rip-off. Not so when I lived in NYC in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. There were always tons of choices, and I had several favorite restaurants, most of which have since closed, unfortunately. Anyway, I wouldn't spend more than $100 anywhere (before tax and tip), since I'm likely to be disappointed anyway. Since my husband doesn't drink any alcohol, and I usually just have one or two glasses of wine, that $100 would be mostly for food. It's too bad, because I love going out to dinner (anything to get out of cooking), but only if I'm assured of a dinner that's far better or at least equal to my own cooking, and that has been happening less and less often!

I agree with you, Meryl. Whether fortunate or not, my DH thinks I serve better food than most

restaurants. He also loathes going to "fancy" places. I go to NY with my sister and eat at places my nephew recommends. Really loved "The Little Owl" until it was featured in B.A. Now it's crowded and the menu hasn't been changed in some time.
I don't have a problem with a few hundred for dinner with wine, but I can't see how they justify 500-1000!

i think the 2-person cap is $87,500. (less gratuity of course)...

they suggest 63%.

if their dessert indicates their portion size,

it sure won't be a girth certificate.
