What are some of your favorite Penzey"s spices 2 buy

A few suggestions...

.... I am not into spice mixes, but two mixes from Penzeys are always in my spice drawer, and I don't allow us to run out: Southwest blend, and Pasta Sprinkle

the Southwest bland we use on pork, beef, chicken - it is excellent, not too hot, just a perfect balance of heat and flavor

The pasta sprinkle is my favorite all purpose spice blend - even though it's called pasta sprinkle, one of our favorite uses for it is making croutons for Caesar salad.

apart from the blends, I am very fond of their Tellicherry black peppercorns, their many types of cinnamon, and their Spanish paprika

Cinnamon, Herbes de Provence, Fines Herbes, Smoked Paprika, Garlic Powder, Toasted Onion Powder,

Ginger, Southwest Seasoning, Country French Vinaigrette...

If they have it . . . my new favorite is . . .

TRUFFLE SALT!! Absolutely amazing!!

I buy mine at our local Spice House for $13.99/jar. A little pricey, but I know it will go a long, long way. This is what I am giving for Christmas this year.

I've been buying from Penzeys for a long time. I started with the jars of spices and now buy bulk

once a year when I run out of something. I have a large herb garden, but many herbs are not available in winter.

I love their Cumin, cinnamon, Sarawak White Peppercorns, 4 peppercorn blend, Chipotle, Ancho, and Adobo chili powders, Thyme, Rosemary, Tarragon......oh heck, I love it all. I have never purchased anything from them that I did not use up. I love the samples because it exposes me to new blends. The bulk products come in heavy plastic. After opening I put into a large freezer bag with other varietes inside, push out the air and seal. It all stays fresh for one year and longer.

marilyn, we just bought a countertop Breville convection oven with a wedding gift card. haven't

used it yet, but your words are encouraging. We just didn't know what to get at the fancy kitchen store since we both have fully stocked kitchens with toys etc and plenty of dishes and china blah blah blah. how is the chicken roasting differrent? we like to use the BBQ rotisserie---even in the winter.

Ang, it cooks faster, the skin was crisper and the meat was juicier.

I did brine, but I'm still brining and roasting in the oven doesn't give me the same result.

Thomas Keller's high heat oven version works well.

I would always put the chicken on a large bed of onions, parsnips, carrots, celery and a few garlic cloves. The broth drippings and the veggies with leftover chicken would make another meal.

Very highly recommend "Mural of Flavor" (salt free). Makes the most incredible shrimp salad,

sprinkle it on anything and everything. This is the best spice blend I've ever purchased from Penzey, and I've tried a lot of them. It is billed as a Western Mediterranean flavor. I promise you will love it!

I stopped buying from Penzey's because of their drastic price increases...

Someone suggested (I think it was Joe) San Francisco Herb and their prices are truly amazing. Of course you have to buy in larger quantities, but I sat down with friends and divided everything up so everyone had lots of herbs and spices for a fraction of what it would have cost at Penzey's (Another idea, gifts of herbs and spices to cooking friends).

The quality is the same from everything I've tried.

Oh Lordy I used to love to go there. They had a crepe stand that I

used to get a crepe filled with almond cream and fresh peaches. Just heaven!

Thanks, Michael, Fox Point is another one of my favorites, didn't know there was a salt-free version

which I need to switch to.

love it

I make a lot of my own spices with dehydrator / grinder / manual. But I was in Penzeys a couple of days ago and picked up a few things:
Pariesien Bonnes Herbes : A+ for awesome.
Aleppo Pepper (Turkey) : I use a lot of peppers and this one has a real nice quality and pretty distinctive.

Anyone use Budda's Hand? I didn't see this at Penzeys but it has an awesome citrus aroma. Lemony but there is almost like a Tuti Fruti quality in the background. Great for holiday baking.
