What can I use to make individual-portion "molten cakes"? Dont' want to buy anything new.

I used to use unwaxed Dixie cups for rum babas, long before all these lovely new pans.

One advantage is that you can just cut off the container with no damage to the cake.

I think that's part of the fun! As long as they're close to the same size (to

ensure even baking). I've been recently liberated from the "everything must match" business.

I've developed a fetish for silverware...trolling through thrift shops and Goodwill for silver that has funky patterned handles, etc. I love digging through the boxes and thinking about the stories and all the dinners...My favorite pieces have a bit of history--old monograms, engravings (I have a knife engraved with the US Navy logo) and defunct airline pieces (definitely first class...).

Silverware has now migrated to cups, platters, bowls, and glassware. I've got several dinner parties planned after the first of the year for 20 or more people. I'm outfitting everything from thrift stores. In fact, I just picked up an assortment of 30+ old fashioned stemwear pieces--mostly the wide champagne glasses. Those I'll use for dessert vessels.

So use those mismatched coffee cups! It's the ultimate in repurpose and sustainability. smileys/smile.gif

I'm with you it's fun! Trying using some of your champagne or large martini glasses for dips.

Personally, I'd just leave them in. Life's too short....Over the years, I've

come to the conclusion that I'd rather entertain and have the food be delicious. The presentation used to stress me out so bad I didn't want to have a party unless all was perfect. Now I'm going for delicious and worrying less about presentation. In the cup or out of the cup, the wow factor has a depreciating reward. It stresses me out A LOT and given the amount of work involved, most people aren't impressed enough for me to worry about getting the darn things out of the cup. So I don't bother anymore.
