What do you all do (or don't do) with pomegrante. Was given 3 yesterday. Seems almost like

a waste of time and energy to just suck on the seeds and then throw everything out.

I did a google search and didn't find out much other than use them for food decoration or spend a lot of time sucking and spitting. smileys/smile.gif

oh, thank goodness someone else admitted this too. I was wondering the same thing....

I cleaned out the pomegrante, sucked the juices from the seeds, then spit out the mouthful of dry remains. The entire time I was wondering if this is "the way" you're supposed to eat them--while mentally congratulating the first people on the planet brave enough to try.

Found this today - it looks interesting! Rec: Pomegranate and Almond Rice

** Pomegranate and Almond Rice **

Good with curry!

2 ounces butter
2 cups basmati rice
5 cups water
1 tsp granulated chicken bouillon or 1 chicken stock cube
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup slivered almonds
1 pomegranate

In a large pot melt the butter, then add the rice and stir to coat the rice with the butter. Do not brown the rice.

Now add the water, bouillon, and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 10 minutes or until all of the water has been absorbed by the rice. Remove from heat and let stand covered for 10 minutes.

In the meantime, remove the seeds from the pomegranate.

Stir the almonds and pomegranate seeds into the rice and serve.

I clean it out and put the seeds in the freezer. Put some ice cold vodka in a martini glass,

add some pom juice (I like the fizzy kind) and sprinkle in some of the frozen seeds.

Delicious!

I love Pomegranates! So easy to de-seed them too!

Get a big batter or mixing bowl and fill it to about half to three quarters full of just plain tap water.

Then slice off the bud and stem end of the pomegranate until you just start to see the seeds.

Then, using a sharp knife, carefully score around the fruit's leathery peel about 1/16th of an inch or less deep. Just get through the skin.

Then, put the fruit in the water and with your hands, crack/break the fruit open where you scored it. It will come apart easily.

The seeds can be easily popped out. They will all sink to the bottom of the bowl full of water. The pith and peelings will float.

Using your hands or a strainer, scoop out the pith and the peelings.

Then, gently pour out the water and the seeds into a plastic strainer.

You will have pure unbroken beautiful seeds. One big fruit will give you about 3/4 cups to about 1 1/4 cups of seeds.

The seeds are great on salads, they are awesome in salsas and fresh fruit cups. They are great when squeezed in making sorbet or even gelato!

They look awesome in mixed drinks and martini glasses. Add them to muffins along with cranberries.

Our family will munch on them like a snack.

We like them with roast chicken dinner with some crushed and some whole mixed with toasted pine nuts.

Add pomegranate seeds to your cookie recipes for a delicious touch.

The seeds will have a crunch to them, and some people don't like that, but we do.

Have fun with them. They are so fun to eat!
