This seems to help some...

I use the hood to exhaust fumes while cooking.

While cleaning, I open at least one window for ventilation, preferably two - one in the kitchen and one at the front of the house for cross-ventilation, assuming it's not freezing out. Then I wipe down the stove, and all kitchen surfaces including microwave, counters, the back of the stove, and the sink and faucet with a cleaner like Pine-Sol. I also boil a solution of 1 tbsp white vinegar and 1 cup water on the stove.

Also...

If you have a garbage disposal, use it to grind 1/4 of a lemon. If not, or if you don't have a lemon, run some white vinegar down the drain.

I do that as well. My house is very open and I think thats

why I have more of an issue with it. Opening the windows seems to do the best job. Thanks for both of your comments. I haven't tried cooking the vinegar and water yet.

So how long do you boil the vinegar?

I did a fritto misto two weekends ago and we can still smell the oil whenever we come home. I boiled vinegar, I cooked water with lemon rind and cinnamon sticks, I opened windows... Kinda puts me off deep-frying (tho the anchovies sandwiched between sage leaves, man, I could fry those every day...).

I asked this question a while back, someone suggested leaving a bowl of amonia...

on the counter overnight, and I was very impressed by how well it worked! I put about a 1/2 cup in a cereal bowl and the next morning... it smelled very fresh in there.

Try a Pet Odor Candle

I have the same problem, an open floor plan and my exhaust fan is not the greatest. I use a Pet Odor Exterminator Candle that I purchase from my veterinarian. It is distributed by Specialty Pet Products. It costs $10.00, but burns for 55 hours and works like a charm for me.

I just did a search and found Petsmart carries them. Thanks for

the suggestion and think I will search for one today.
