What food comes to mind, when I say braces? We are struggling, and open to ideas.

This is in my wheelhouse. I put on braces for half of my working

life so I'll tell you what you should stay away from.
Popcorn is the worst! The little hulls get stuck up under the gums and really cause problems. Hard and sticky are enemies.
Stay away from these things...
Nuts
Hard taco shells
Sticky and hard candy
Gum
Ice (It's OK to just suck on but don't chew)
Corn chips
Pretzels

Lol, I wore braces for 3 years in my late forties. I'll never forget the first problem I had

and it was with cheap white bread. We were traveling from Clearwater to Tallahassee to take daughter back to college along a route with very little in the way of restaurants. When we stopped, I had a sandwich and it was on soft wonder sort of bread. That bread gummed up my braces sooo bad! Taught me to carry a toothbrush with me, for sure. My homemade bread with cracked wheat caused a bracket to snap off. it was fun telling my orthodontistl I was eating bread when it happened. I think his reply was that he'd heard that one before.

Popcorn for sure is a no-no. Eating a spinach salad with bean sprouts wasn't pretty. I don't remember any other big problems.

Orchid, funny about the ice, I was always an ice chewer and had to break that habit when I wore braces.

I had braces when I was 60 for a year.

What they said- popcorn, nuts, etc. But my best tip is to make sure you cut foods in really small pieces. Don't try to put a normal-sized piece of food in your mouth to break down. Start with small pieces and you won't have so much trouble.

What they all said, and soft food/eggs/soup when you get an adjustment

I had them as a teen (and I need them again).

Nothing sticky, no biting into corn on the cob, etc.

A waterpik was my friend.

Age 50: Not so much food, but flossing was a BIG deal for me. I ended up getting a

Waterpik, basically a pressure washer for teeth.

Particularly around adjustments I found I could only eat

foods that required little to no chewing like soups or brothy stews or macaroni and cheese as it was incredibly painful when my top teeth touched the bottom teeth, so milkshakes and things I could sip or drink through a straw were a godsend. These days, smoothies would be great because you can get a lot of nutrition into a smoothie (fruits, vegetables AND protein).
