What is this dish mold for? Photo inside

Given the chip, it looks like ceramic? Is a baking type? Strange to have such a pattern

that does not get transferred.

I am thinking of something French but it is not coming to me right now. Maybe it will on Valentine's Day.

It looks like a decrorative mold to hang on the wall in your kitchen. Depending on what it is made

Of you could also bake a Valentine Cake

Did they make things that were just useless? Seems like it could go in oven.

It even has feet. Yes, it has a chip. Likely a garage sale find of some kind. If it was decorative I wouldn’t think it be as heavy as it is. Though it does have a loop to hang it on the wall.

I think it is a "jello" mold--the top would be decorative when unmolded.

oh, no, that's right, it's flat inside.

My first thought was a mold for couer de creme, but

they have holes for the cheese to drain.

It probably could be used to bake something, as long as the oven temperature wasn't too high, or it could be a mold for a steamed pudding.

The decorative pattern being on the outside wouldn't transfer to the finished dish, but it would make it more pleasing to have hanging on the wall.

Looking again, since it has the hole for hanging it may be primarily for decor but

also for use as a mold for whatever. It has a bit of the look of Bennington pottery. A pudding mold would need a lid.
Back in the 70's the copper molds were all the rage to hang but also very useful for molds. I had a fish that I used for salmon mousse.

Oh thank you. Now I know why I kept thinking French. I couldn't sleep. I always make some kind of

cake on Valentine's Day, using a heart-shaped mold. And I'm not even a romantic.

I think this would be used for a cake, given that the intricate pattern doesn't transfer. For a jelly, we would want it to.
