What kitchen tools (or toys) are on your Christmas wish list this year? nt

I am really interested in that AeroGarden thing...

I have read some good reviews about it, but not sure where I would put it in my kitchen. Also, it's pretty pricey ($150). On the other hand, I am not much of a green thumb, and this looks like a dummy proof way to have fresh herbs.

I'm debating asking jolly old Santa for a pasta roller but can't decide if I want one for the KA or

a counter model like Atlas. Just saw an article in FC magazine that said if you have a KA mixer to get the attachment, but I'm not convinced the Atlas counter model wouldn't be more convenient and something I'd be more apt to use. Anyone want to give their thoughts on this? How easy is it to use the KA attachment? Also, my KA is at least 30 years old, wonder if that makes any difference.

Fine Cooking magazine November issue #82 has a review on this. If you happen to see a magazine it's

on page 32. The person who used it set it up said the seeds sprouted by the next evening and growth was swift. Within a month she had lots of basil and continued harvesting for two months. A reminder system told when to add water and the grow lights cycled on and off automatically. The only problem she had with it was it took up room in her kitchen that she didn't have to spare in a small Manhattan apartment so she probably wouldn't continue using it. Because it's expensive, she said to think twice before making the investment, however she said if she had more space she'd welcome it into her kitchen for good. That help any, lol?

My daughter wants a food processor. I want to get her a kitchenaid

I can not decide between the 7 cup & 12 cup. She had the blender & Mixer. Any input? Thanks.

Not buying for me but buying lots of red KA stuff, anyone know about their knives?

Oldest steopson bought a condo and wanted me to buy him stuff for it for his Christmas and I am having a real hard time because I have a hard time not buying the nicer stuff I buy for myself. So it's causing lots of frustration.

But I am having some fun with it. His new condo is beige and tan (or brown - his mom used both to describe and we haven't seen it yet and probably never will as we tried to talk him out of buying it since it is on the very edge of the floodway and DH works for the USACE). But being Buckeye fan by blood (DH and his ex both went there) he ahs red splashed everywhere.

So I had to chose a color since almost everything comes trimmed in color and I chose red - KitchenAid red pans, KA chopping board with red trim, KA red tools, and now, I found a set of KA knives (what is causing the most anguish for me) in red that retails for over $200 (on sale for $173 at KA site) and I got them for $59. I know they aren't Wustoff or Shun or Henkels but what do you think? Anyone familiar with them? I can't afford to buy him a $200 set of knives.

OH - and he probably won't like it but I got him a crockpot - in red of course. Everyone should have a crockpot. It's easy to make a roast if nothing else and he's a meat and potatoes boy if ever there was one.

And he asked for my recipes including my famous grandmother's chicken and dumplins. I've shared the recipe here and other places but I don't know why, I don't want to share with him (we don't get along and I've actually kicked him out of the house at 2am in the morning about 2 years ago). But I am giving in and compiling a family and friends cookbook so I guess I am sharing it. He'll probably never be able to master it though. He said all he cooks is scrambled eggs and hamburgers or hamburger meat for tacos or burritos.

I have the good, old fashioned, atlas for years now. I did get a motor for it that

is just fab and leaves your hands free for pulling and guiding the dough. i don't know about the KA attachments, I don't know anyone who has used them. have fun with the pasta smileys/smile.gif

A kitchen. smileys/smile.gif

Really.
We have to replace the kitchen in the apartment we'll move into, around Christmastime.
I want a red kitchen. I have no idea why.

No brown! Nothing brown!
(Husband's family's 19th-century apartment, renovated under Communism, has everything in DARK BROWN.) If you didn't think Communism oppresses nearly everything, including the freedom to think in color, think again.

Also on the list, once we get somewhere to put it:
A mixer (handheld, the only kind ya can get here).
NEW dishes. Not hand-me-downs from the in-laws.
Good knives.
Ceramic mixing bowls.
A cake stand with a cover.
Wine glasses.
A modest but respectable bar.
A spice rack.

Sigh. I hope Santa's got room for all of that.

I would love a house boy to follow me around, do my bidding and clean up, does that count? smileys/wink.gif)

Husband sent 6.75 Chasseur cast iron enamel oval to me (from finer Kitchens) this week. Love it!

Cheezz, go for the house boy. there's nothing like "eye candy" to make the those scullery chores

go quickly.

i wonder if Antonio Banderas has plans for the holidays..... oh Santa, I'm so deserving... smileys/smile.gif))

I wanted this Cuisinart Duet Blender/Food Processor but now I don't know...

I used this at a friends house and loved it -- she loves it as well but hers is several years old. From the looks of the reviews it sounds like they break easily. I wonder if the newer models are made as well. smileys/frown.gif

It was perfect for when you didn't want to drag out the big FP.
