what makes a brownie a brownie? we decided to take the afternoon off and Don put on

food TV. Paula Deen was making orange brownies. so, there is nothing brown about those brownies and I was wondering why they are still called brownies?

Brownies have little or no leaveners. Hence, the chewy or fudgy texture, as opposed to cakes.
