What model Food Saver do you have? Would you get that model again? Tax rebate arrived!

I have the V2840, and yes I would buy it again, however...

Costco has the latest model that stands on end, it takes up less room. Mine flips up on end, for storage, but I never store it. If you do, you will never use it. It must be left out, as you will use it everyday.
Another tip, I've heard folks say that they are out of bags and find them expensive to replace. Guess what, I reuse by bags over and over again. I wash in hot soapy water, rinse, fold and store in a large zip lock stored in the drawer with the plastic and foil wraps. My husband made me a dryer....he use a flat piece of smooth wood, drilled holes and glued dowls into the holes. I dry my Food Saver and Zip Lock bags over the dowls.

I wash and reuse, too - no reason why not... I'd love the latest model as it does take up room

I also re-use but never ones that had raw meat. When I froze my ravioli this year>>>

froze first on parchment on a tray, then carefully (on a cardboard peel fitted to the bag width) slid the layer with its parchment into bag, then slid an second layer in. Supporting bag we vacuumed it and it remained horizontal. Best quality frozen ravs we ever made! AND I made the bag several inches longer than necessary so we could use these bags for ravs again several times. cut close to seal when opening so you have max size to reuse. Also we always "double seal." Saves heartache!

Luisa, I used to toss bags that had raw meat, as well. But one day my husband

turned the bag inside out, sprayed it with a mix of Clorox and water, then washed in hot water and soap, he let in dry inside out and now I reuse all the bags. Not dead yet!

My husband doesn't quite get the concept of "Cross Contamination" , rather

he thinks it doesn't appy to him! Wipes up raw chicken juice from the counter, then throws sponge in the sink without even washing it out. I keep telling him to use paper towels, then a Clorox wipe.... Don't.Let.Me.Get.Started!

I just traded up to the newest one at Costco

Not only do I like it because it's so slim I can leave it out but it had nicer features - I always had a hard time holding down the lid and holding a heavy bag especially when marinating with lots of liquids. I just relly has so many new features.

Also you can order an attachment for the built in air hose and order the resealable ziplock type bags for things you open and close a lot. I buy blocks of cheese and grate myself and put in ziplock bags but vacuum sealing is so much better but since I use it almost every night, I don't want to waste bags that way so the sipper seal bags with the air pulled out work SO much better than regular ziplock bags.
