What oven temp to you cook your turkey and at what internal temperature do you take it out?

My sister just called and asked and I wasn't really sure what to tell her. I've made maybe 5 turkeys in my life - it's the one holiday that someone else in the family typically hosts.

Would greatly appreciate your input!

Gee deb, I surely hope someone here can be of help. After all, we ARE a food forum,

aren't we? Lol

As you can imagine, my brain is on overload as explained in my post below, but I am compelled to offer you my in-a-pinch-better-safe-than-sorry response. After all, I am a food policewoman!

If stuffed, it better (has to!) reach a minimum temperature of 165 degrees. If not stuffed, you could take it out at 160 degress or less but I can't advise you on less than 160 degrees as I don't usually cook large turkeys. I'd go with 160 degrees to take it out to be on the safe side.

I cook the turkey at 450 tented in foil (stuffed of course). I have no idea about internal temp>>>

but I do a 12-14 lb. bird about 3 hrs. covered and then open the tent for the last 1/2 hr.
The turkey is always cooked perfectly.

Hope this helps.
