What soup would you serve with Chinese Chicken Salad?

Going to a luncheon and bringing the soup, and I can't seem to think of anything that sounds like a good match for the flavors of the salad.

What do you say? Any ideas and recipes appreciated!

Also, a simple congee porridge works well. Uses rice leftovers or you can make it from...

...uncooked rice -it just takes a little longer.

I bring chicken broth and a handful of washed, whole green onions to a boil and add rice. The amount of rice depends on how much broth you have, but you can always add more liquid if the congee gets too thick.

Cook at a simmer, stirring often to prevent sticking, until rice is silky soft -around 1 to 1-1/2 hours. Remove green onions. Add grated fresh ginger to taste, and add soy sauce and a dash of sesame oil. Adjust salt.

People love this. You can add shredded rotisserie chicken at the final stage and warm through. Garnish with finely chopped green onion to add color.

Tom Yum (shrimp) Thai soup. I used to be able to find a packaged base at

World Market...something like Blue Elephant. Added it to good homemade chicken broth, then drop raw shrimp into the hot broth and finish off with add-ins (like fresh Thai basil, lime & cilantro). Perfect every time.

Soba noodles are also good added to this; we like the darker buckwheat version.

Hopefully you have better sources than the culinary wasteland I'm in.
