My great aunt (91) is getting rid of some books and there's a copy of the JoC from 1975. I remember reading a thread about a point I. The JoC where the changes made it not so good. Was wondering if this version was before or after.

I'm reading the section on how to make ice. This book pretty much has it all. smileys/smile.gif

Grab it. This is the CLASSIC one. It was the one in the late

90s that was considered too far from the roots of Joy and then another edition closer to the old ones was done. Our kids visited friends in Napa whose home is in the middle of the Rombauer vineyards. They gave us a reproduction of the 30s original with the Art Deco cover. Very cute--and not very large.
When I was married I got the Joy of that time--and have given it to DD.

The 1962 version was my cooking bible

for the first 10 years we were married. It was a gift from my MIL.

When it was updated version was released in 1997, I bought a copy of that also.
I like that it covers foods and cuisines that were not popular or available to us in the 50's and 60's, but it does have it's shortcomings.
I still go to the older one for substitutions, conversions and good basic recipes.

I have one where the latest copyright date is 1951. The book opens to cocktails

...which pretty much sets the mood.

The first 2:00 minutes of this clip is brilliant...well, the rest is too, but I'll bet 50's Dharma had a copy of my 1951 Joy of Cooking in her purse.

I have Season 1 & 2 of *Dharma & Greg* on DVD and watch them before bed.

It helps to cancel out the violent scenes I see on TV--otherwise I end up revisiting the violence in nightmares.

Dharma helps my mind laugh before falling asleep.

I loved those shows, and what a great idea. I do the same thing with Golden Girls

eI love the silliness, and fun. My husband watches news right up until the time he goes to be. I cannot do that!

I had all the same happen with me. I realized that watching Without A Trace was giving me bad dreams

so I learned to put the timer on for 30 min and have something run in the background (Golden Girls, Raymond) that I found enough of a distraction from my thoughts (life was not good then) but not enough to keep me awake. I still do it.

This was too funny to put me to sleep though. So I will check out this program as I've never seen it.

Ha! Bill has to fall asleep to TV, sets the timer, but it's law and order et al, or criminal minds

gahhhhh, hate criminal minds for the gruesomeness. I won this battle for no more CM at bedtime.
