What's happened to frozen meals?

Years ago, with a young family we went water skiing every summer weekend. After a long day on the water, I'd planned a no cooking night. Hungry Man frozen fried chicken was delicious, crispy, moist chicken and perfectly seasoned. Stoffer's Mac and Cheese was a must too, and was delicious. It had been years since we had those two items, so a few weeks ago I bought them again. They were awful!

I recall buying a few Lean Cuisine from time to time that were OK, and a Weight Watchers spaghetti dinner that was very good. Last week I picked up a Lean Cuisine for old time's sake choosing a Lemon Chicken with rice and broccoli. I am sitting her eating it now, it is sweet, the rice is mush, there was two small bites of broccoli and the two small chicken rounds were slimy, and had zero flavor. You would think these frozen dinners would have gotten better over time, but for me, they have become terrible How can lemon chicken not have any flavor of lemon whatsoever?

I wish I could find a company who took pride in what they put out on the market. I freeze better stuff at home, than the crap I have experienced recently. What a bummer!

Stauffer's lasagnas are decent, maybe especially their vegetarian ones. We can buy

ready made food in the deli section of our supermarkets that is delicious and economical--grilled salmon and 3 sides for $6.99. Whole roast chickens are ubiquitous.

Thanks...I have not tried Stauffer's lasagnas nor have I tried anything from the supermarket deli's

other than lunch meats for a long time. I think I may have tried a potato salad or macaroni salad, and thought they were bland, but maybe that has improved. I know a lot of folks who pick up food from the deli. I should get a few things to try out for lunches.

I am not a fan of Stauffers or Kirkland's frozen lasagna. Both are served with regularity when...

...we visit with relatives out of State. I mean, they're okay, but I find them both overly salty and basically a mush of noodles and red sauce.

I make stir-fry and fried rice and freeze individual (or 2-serving) portions in food saver vacuum bags. They are easy to microwave or boil (in-the-bag) and come out great. I do this with Mexican Rice, barbecued chicken breasts (Greek and Mexican) and other foods.

I grew up with Hungry Man frozen dinners. I loved the Salisbury Steak and the Mexican dinners. I haven't had them in years, maybe decades! Sorry to hear they aren't any good anymore!

I just saw frozen PF Chang *bowl of jasmine rice* ON SALE for $2.99. FOR A BOWL OF FROZEN RICE.

PLAIN RICE
SINGLE SERVING.
$2.99
ON SALE.

Is anyone else shocked at this? I could buy 5 pounds of jasmine rice for $2.99.

But you can keep the bowl and plant something in it! smileys/smile.gif

sorry, could not resist. It is outrageous indeed....

Try Amy's brand...

I had the black beans and mexican casserole one the the night and it was decent. Also, tasted the frozen cheese pizza when babysitting (kid food) and it was surprised it was quite good.
