What's up with limes?

I purchased 8 limes last week. I usually pick out the ones with a slightly yellow tinge mixed in with the lime green color. They seem to have more juice. Today, I cut open my first lime as I needed 1/4 cup lime juice. It was dry. I went through all eight and only managed to get two tablespoons, and that was with some hard twisting. I ended up having to use lemons to get my 1/4 cup. I am so furious, what is up with the dry limes?

Have been noticing dry limes as well, especially

ones I buy at Safeway. So, lately I've been getting them at the Mexican market. They're not only far juicier but much cheaper -- like 8 or 10 limes for $1.

Also, don't know if you have a lime squeezer but I find they extract ALOT more juice than other methods. The one at the link isn't the brand I have -- I just pulled it up to give you a visual. They're great and I also have one for lemons and one for oranges. Very handy, fast to use, easy to clean and they retain any seeds and pulp so you're not picking out fruit seeds from your squeezed juice.

Mine were so dry the flesh was like strings on the inside. Sent hubby to the store this

morning to buy more limes. If these are the same way, I am packing them up to get my money back, and complain about the others I lost prior to this batch. At least the zest is good, so I was able to save that.

Safeway told me one time that when I got a bad product to simply come in and let the store manager know. Money back guarantee or replacement, should I chose that.

I used to have one of those gadgets for lemons. They work great, if the fruit has any juice.

If I pick them too early they are dry but ripe ones are very juicy. I also have the squeezers Pat

mentioned. I use the lemon squeezer for limes most of the time because the limes are too big for the lime squeezer. However, it is perfect for Key Limes. Likewise, I find a lot of oranges too big for the orange squeezer but the middle squeezer is just right.

I checked and I have the lemon squeezer. The lemons off my tree are too big for it

and that is why I went back to the reamer type. I just used it this morning for store bought lemons and it is great. I keep forgetting that I have it. Of course, it is in plain sight!! sigh

Drought. Same things happened to my lemons until I started giving them more water than usual.

Yellow ones are more ripe. My sister has a tree and they tend to drop when they are ripe - when they are almost all yellow.

I thought it was just from being sent up here to Alaska, we often get dry limes. I even returned

some once because they were just unuseable. a hassle, but produce dept needed to know. actually good to know it's not just up here.
