What's your best suggestion for a dish to take to a family reunion at a rural Southern church this

Sunday? Dinner, on the grounds, will be after church, pot luck galore! I need make ahead, so I can leave on Sunday morning at 10 am with a dish ready to go with me. Many thanks!

I like Ramen noodle salad to take along... no nuts, no mayonnaise, easy to make ahead, and

tastes good! The flavors get better overnight.

If it's going to be unrefrigerated for any length of time I think I'd omit the garlic. I don't like to let garlic and oil sit out together very long; better safe than sorry.

We add chicken for a meal, certainly good with out it though.

Or a simple tomato-mozzarella-basil salad?

Add olive oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Yum.

Have fun!!

Or how about sparkling punch?

1 gallon orange sherbet, softened
1 quart pineapple juice, chilled
1 bottle (1 liter size) Sprite, chilled

Combine sherbet and juice in punch bowl and stir well. Add soda, and stir until sherbet is almost dissolved. Serve immediately.

A great family gathering dish- Creamy Pasta Salad

This is so easy and it holds very well. I made it up many, many years ago and have used it for countless pot lucks and gatherings. Always a hit and never anything leftover.

CATHY’S CREAMY PASTA SALAD

8 oz dry pasta (bows, twists, shells, or tri-color)
1 15-1/2-oz can garbanzo beans, drained
6 oz sliced, drained black olives
1-1/2cup chopped onion
1 cup shredded carrots
1 cup shredded or sliced green peppers
2 cups chopped tomatoes
1 cup sliced radishes
1 16-oz jar Marie’s Creamy Italian Salad Dressing
1 T basil
1 T oregano
1 T garlic powder
2 T parsley (fresh, chopped)
1/2 tsp chili peppers, dried
1/3 cup parmesan cheese

Cook and drain pasta, and cool it under cold water. Mix with the rest of the ingredients.

Here' another idea- Jeannie's Greek Orzo

This is another good gathering dish- it is very good room temp as well as hot so it would be easy to make ahead and "hold". It is very tasty and always is a hit when I make it for pot lucks:

JEANNIE’S GREEK ORZO Serves six

1-1/2 cup (dry) orzo
1/4 cup olive oil
1 lb broccoli, cut up and cooked
1/2 large onion, chopped
3 Tbsp pine nuts
3/4 cup feta cheese (3-1/2 oz)
1/2 cup parmesan
1/2 tsp hot chili peppers, chopped
1/4 cup basil, chopped
3/4 cup Kalmata olives, chopped

Cook and drain pasta. Brown pine nuts in dry pan, cool. Toss all ingredients together and serve hot.

Many thanks for all your suggestions. You got outvoted, however. DH asked for turnip greens and

cornbread (a true son of the South)and all his redneck cousins scoffed them up. LOL

Ah, so sorry I saw thus too late! Black eyed peas, pumpkin pie, buttermilk pie, biscuits & gravy....
