"is a classic British dessert, dating as early back as the 16th century. It is a mixture of sweetened fruit puree and whipped cream. It is usually enjoyed during fresh fruits are in seasons."
Another source says, "the name of this gossamer dessert comes from the French word foulé meaning pressed or crushed, and refers to the combination of crushed fruits and thick cream."
I went to a dinner party once and two of us brought dessert. I made Thomas Keller's chocolate terrine and someone else made a blackberry fool. I was *shocked* to see how many people were RAVING about the fool. "It's so light and airy." Meanwhile, I was stewing and thought to myself, "Well, duh, it's just whipped cream!" Then I tried it myself...and I was hooked too. Go figure!
Make it sometime. You'll be surprised how much people rave about this simple, simple dessert.
