When restaurants do produce what they advertise.

We went to what I'd heard was a very good restaurant. It was a birthday celebration and I was looking forward to the experience. The first picture is from their website for a dessert that looked wonderful. At $12 I thought it was a little pricey but it looked so good I didn't care.

And here is what they served:

WOW! What a difference... I agree with Pat. Truth in advertising should still count for something!

That's certainly not stacked up to what it's supposed to be and someone did not pay attention to

detail!! It looks like "The Blob" of desserts!

I know what happened...it's easy. Someone called in sick, the dish

washer was the only choice! You can't fault management...they got what they paid for.

I could not agree with you more Michael - that deserves a refund

it's one thing to not get it perfect every time and have 'little' misses but that?

OMG, you really had me laughing out loud!!!

Of course, I wouldn't have been laughing if it happened to me!

I think it belongs on the Cake Wrecks site!!!

I am at a loss for words! I am hoping you are writing to the management. That is a disgrace!!

How could they have possibly put that on your table!! (Let alone the side by side comparisons.....) Seriously, unbelievable!

Best,
Barb

I'm not a confrontational guy and this was a birthday dinner. There were some good...

dishes served and some other not so good ones. They served a tiny bowl of cold ginger scented pear soup with coconut raspberry sorbet that was very good.

The special soup was a mushroom bisque with a pig in a blanket...duck pate (sorry Sandy) that was wrapped in pastry and baked. That was very good but too big a serving that I ate all of. Ed had a cup of Roasted heirloom yellow tomato soup with basil oil and truffle-scented crème fraîche that was also good.

For the entree I had the Pan-seared diver scallops and sautéed escarole with crispy dill potato cake and curried citrus nage. The sauteed vegetables that accompanied the scallops were wonderful. The scallops were extremely salty and gritty with an off-taste. They may have been frozen. Ed had the Spice glazed duck breast (again, sorry Sandy) and crispy goat cheese polenta with poached pears and star anise aigre-doux jus which he said was ok.

We had both ordered dessert but they only brought the tragedy that was mine and forgot about Ed's. They did correct this right away. His Raspberry and milk chocolate mousseline with
Pernod orange sorbet and raspberry coulis was good.

The bottle of Chardonnay was very good.

The restaurant is Mozaic in downtown Sarasota.

It's not confrontational to send a polite email with the two pictures expressing disappointment...

It's better than sounding off on the spot and spoiling the mood, and would probably be better received.

They should want to know how far off their presentation is from what they show on the website. You'd be doing them a favor.

Since you don't sound too excited about returning there, you don't need to ask for anything in return.

Just my two cents.

Michael - have you been to Javier's near Turtle Beach...

every year when we visit my parents we eat there. Love the Corvina on the menu.

Okay - has nothing to do with this post but I was just thinking about it when reading your post.

Also - ever had coffee cake from http://www.paisanositalianbakery.com/. AMAZING!!! My husband, who is a chocolate X10, requested it for his birthday:)

I agree, a very diplomatic way of handling this.

I bet, especially since the tone was polite, they would be very receptive to it.

I told our waiter that the scallops were very salty and gritty. He said ...

he would let the kitchen know. That dessert should have never left the kitchen. I really didn't get the feeling that they cared. When I wrote my review I did leave my name and email. It's been over a week and I haven't heard anything. The review and reservation were through OpenTable.com which the restaurant pays for.

He would let the kitchen know?--That chef(?) should have bounded out to your table with an le

apology. Did you send the dessert back? Totally unacceptable.
