It came in a 16 oz glass jar, it is solid, much like lard, smells wonderful and clean. The checker told me she loves it for cooking and putting on her beautiful skin. She uses it for stir-fry, roasting/grilling veggies, browning chicken, pork, seafood, in rice dishes, vinaigrettes, and so on. What uses have you found for it?

I'm going to roast some spring asparagus tonight and brush the coconut oil on it. Then drizzling with pomegranate balsamic vinegar prior to serving.

My neighbor told me there have been studies done suggesting it helps Alzheimer patients.

My husband's massage therapist convinced him that it was liquid gold and to take 2 TBL a day.

He took it like a vitamin. Ate the entire 16 oz jar.

All that happened was he gained weight.

I think he was supposed to substitute the coconut fat with the fat he normally eats (olive oil, Smart) but he just took it like a supplement.

Coconut oil was always used for popping corn in theaters in

....the "old" days (I think until the 1970s). It lost favor when saturated fats got thumbs down but it really adds a wonderful flavor to most anything. It is used a lot in Hawaii for cooking, for massage, other things.

My friend Eugene teaches a class called "Eat, Drink, Weave Coconut" and part of it is teaching about how to make coconut oil. It is a long , involved process and 5-6 coconuts will make only about 2 oz of oil. Expensive to make because of the labor and very long cooking time.

Yeah, that's what I thought... but it was more like

the '90's, I think. Do you know if it's the same as palm oil?

I wondered if it was the same thing - the "dangerous" stuff and the "miracle" food. Probably!
