Who's your favorite quick meals author/book? (inspired by the string at 793)

My favorite author for quick meals is Donna Hay, several of her books focus on quick meals (one is divided into 10, 20 & 30 minutes if I remember correctly), but in general most of her books/recipes are very "quick-meal friendly" with a well-stocked pantry (and I make liberal substitutions).

Ah, Nigel Slater's "Real Fast Food" inspires me when I'm in a hurry/can't think of a quickie.

Sunset and Betty Evans...

For “fast and simple” I particularly like the old Sunset Cookbooks collection. They have a lot of easy, dependable recipes that use ingredients typically found in my, albeit well-stocked, pantry.

But my real favorites often come from a collection of little cookbooks by Betty Evans. A contemporary of Julie Child…almost parallel lives actally…with many similar living experiences and philosophies, she wrote small, practical cookbooks filled with real world substitutions, advice, and annotations. Just like Julia’s books, I cook from them but also read them for fun!

Her more recent books even have jacket quotes from our own Cathy in Kauai. Long time friends, Cathy brought Betty and her husband Gordon (cookbook illustrator) to our home in Honolulu for dinner. Betty graced my kitchen with her sweet soul… and improved my salad dressing at the same time.

Like her friend Julia...they knew each other quite well... Betty passed away at the end of last year and she is missed by many people.

She gave me a few of her books and I purchased the rest from used bookstores and from Amazon. They hold a special place in my kitchen library and in my heart.

hard to choose...

I also like Donna Hay and Nigel Slater, but I probably use these more:
The Quick from Scratch series by Food & Wine - especially chicken and pasta
Flash in the Pan by Brooke Dojny and Melanie Barnard (also their Let's Eat In)
The Simpler the Better series by Leslie Revsin

Right now it's an old french cook book

by Raymond Oliver called "La cusine - sa technique, ses secrets".

It's from 1965 and I LOVE it!!!

I'm sad to hear of the loss of Betty Evans.

I didn't know her well, but she was always to very kind and thoughtful. She would email me every so often. I did not realize that she had passed away. Thank you for letting us know.
