Wine switching to plastic bottles - interesting article.

Screw tops have not bothered me, some of my favorites were leaders in this change. However,

those silicone corks are a real PITA,I have even tasted a few box wines that were drinkable.
But somehow, this just seems wrong in several ways??
OMG, it is five o'clock somewhere?
Nan

Screw tops bother me only in that they'll change the rate at which wine ages. I don't > >

think my '86 Heitz would have become so smooth and elegant if it had a screw top. On the other hand, Plumpjack and some terrific Aussies use the screw top so, quien sabe?

I don't know... My French host family (back in '97) kept table wine in a giant plastic container...

Of course, it was refilled every 2 weeks--maybe that's the trick. smileys/wink.gif

and it didn't affect the taste of the wine? did they make their own wine?

haven't had homemade wine in forever!

No, they/we went through it so quickly (as per the article) that there was no difference.

They didn't make it; they bought it (in vast quantities) from somewhere...

thanks Erin, maybe it's not as bad as we all assume it is but, I'm sure Julia would be horrified

at the thought of it "-)))

Probably. I think the world of her--but I would drink decent wine from a (new) sneaker. smileys/wink.gif

actually, been there, done that. I ruined a new pair of satin pumps one New

Year's eve as my friends decided they should champagne from my slippers. had to walk home barefoot '-D

We once rented a house outside Barcelona...

and it was the same drill, take whatever container you wnated to the store and they fill it up with the house wine - I don't remember where it was stored at the store though... it was a pretty 'wet' holiday!!

Ha! Wet holiday. smileys/wink.gif)) Come to think of it, I used to buy wine like that in Prague

from a shop where it was sold by the liter--sudové vino, aka wine from the cask--and decanted into plastic bottles. No off taste.

Anyway, for the record, I'm apparently a strong advocate of good wine in plastic, as long as it's only there for a week or so.

But Randi really wins with the pumps.
