Thanks, desertjean. I read an essay recently from a ministry that works in prisons...
...here in the US. Many years ago they started a program where they provided Mother's Day cards to any prisoner that wanted to send one to his Mom. They provided the card and the postage. There was a huge response in the prisons, and they estimated that more than 60% of the prisoners who had living Moms sent cards each year.
They had such great success they decided to offer the same deal to the prisoners on Father's Day. Free cards, postage, etc.
The response was almost nil. Most prisoners either didn't know who their father was, or had lost touch with their fathers at an early age. Many who did send cards, sent them to their fathers in another prison, where they were also serving time.
The results shocked the ministry. They began to try and understand the importance of a father who takes on the precious responsibility to raise their family and start by being a loving, loyal, respectful and responsible husband to his wife.
I am thankful for my family, and pray for all those who've never known the blessings I have received.
