it's not generally a particularly wise idea to attempt to reinstall windows before morning coffee.

rvb - we never know what you're going to be up to! Was it a major or minor catastrophe?

minor. i'm getting to be an old hand at reinstalling microsot &%#)*! windows.

and xp is the wost of the &%#)*! lot.

Thanks for the warning, I am trying to get my teenage daugther's...

computer working and was about to dig into it before my morning caffeine break. I just got through fixing it on July 30th and here I am again doing it. Think I am going to start looking at some monitoring software and some heavy duty protection. Any ideas or suggestions from others would be appreciated!

luckily, you can get excellent software for free.

i'm using avg free edition anti-virus software.

the firewall on my modem is enough, but sygate makes a good one. i forget which of my anti-spyware programs are free. i'm using both adaware and spybot since each can miss some that the other catches.

good luck.

wish me luck.. there's something about the command

format d: (240 gigs) that makes me remember every prayer i ever learned.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you...

my son installed what we thought was Windows XP on his computer, but it turned out to be just a fix-it program, Dell didn't include the original Windows program, and he lost his whole C drive. It took a lot to get his computer up and running again. Good luck!

than`k heaven i didn't lose or damage my system restore disks.

i tried to do another on dvd to make things easier. the screen popped up a window telling me that i had my chance and wasn't allowed another.

sheesh. i could have been forced to a long visit to winedows.

tonight????? i'm on my way with patron Añejo...

i also got approval (and check) on a nice-sized piano rebuild today.

i'll try not to drool.
