3-3" pots of holy basil

3-3" pots of lime basil and

3-3" pots of tarragon

pots that is. not plants. the holy basils were 1 to a pot, but the tarragon was about 10 to the pot and the lime basil, 20. i'm gonna rinse the soil offa the (very healthy looking) plants and repot.

i got them from herbfresh.com in CA. $3.95 per pot and about 10 bucks postage.

the plants were packaged very well and came in 3 days with standard s&h.

Great rvb! Does anyone know what kind of oregano I should ask for...

at the garden center? Last ones I have been getting were the real weedy kind, nothing at all like what oregano really tastes like.

I vaguely remember having this conversation with (Richard?) but I fogot what the recommendation was.

Thanks.

yah. most of the stuff that the garden centers call oregeno and now sometimes greek oregano is...

wild marjoram which grows and tastes like a weed. same thing with russian tarragon.

true greek oregano is great. the leaves are much smaller than the ones on your plant(s), 1/2" or less.

mexican oregano is good but i can't tell you what to look for other than i can't imagine herbfresh steering you wrong.

italian oregano looks interesting.

bon chow.

Unfortunately, their minimum order is 6 pots ( I have French tarragon, and...

It has an authentic flavor, but it makes my mouth tingle when I taste it. Is that normal?!

I have a plant that was named "Wild Greek Mountain Oregano" and it is very good. . .

bought it as a single plant in a 2" pot at a local nursery.

Best Oregano I have had. Dries wonderfully and tastes great, spreads moderately by runners but does not take over a garden (at least out here without summer water).

It has small leaves and is not a bush, but more like a many-stemmed (up from the ground) clump.

Be careful where you plant oregano......

as it's a member of the mint family, and will happily take over.
I'd suggest either a container, or a far corner of the garden, with nothing else nearby that you care to preserve.
It is nice to have fresh oregano, so don't let this discourage you.

a lot of oreganos are pretty slow growers..

i dunno about wild greek mountain, but wild marjarom (often sold as oregano is.

byw, not only does it grow like a weed, it also tastes like one.

The greek mountain oregano I have does spread, slowly, but it doesn't get summer water . . .

I stole a cutting of a marjoram from the San Gabriel Mission and rooted it and planted it in the front yard and *IT* is presently annexing the rest of the front yard, inches a day--it is a real octopus. I need to get in there and rip it out, but the kids know I will make them help me and so are getting quite smart at distracting me when I start to order them out with me. It is a fragrant, nice marjoram to cook with, but it's growth habits are VERY invasive.

My oregano, on the other hand, is polite and well mannered and I will be harvesting it today or tomorrow.

And the next day or the next, I swear, I will declare active war on the marjoram!
