Yet ANOTHER question about this stupid birthday cake!

I (as usual) failed to read the entire recipe before starting the icing. Recipe says to melt choc with half and half and butter until smooth. Remove from heat and add powered sugar, mixing well. Set sauceoan in ice and beat until frosting holds it's shape.

My hand mixer bit the dust yesterday. Can't do it in my K.A. What if I chill the bowl of the mixer...or do you think I should whisk until my arm falls off?

 
I also use a similar frosting recipe. I don't whisk constantly, but "often". It takes about...

...45 minutes to set up.

I leave the bowl with the frosting in a larger bowl filled with ice and water. I stir every few minutes with a stiff whisk.
