You guys remember the cake party? Same friend threw a mac n' cheese party. By her count

What a great idea! So did you have a couple of favorites? I guess there were too many to try them

all. What was the most unusual contribution?

A few had a chef touch and I really liked one that had a topping of braised beef. Another was

loaded with smoked cheeses and topped with a layer of bacon. She also used gluten-free pasta and cooked it in a crock pot. I didn't try them all (most dried out by the time they got to the party) but several I tried were incredibly delicious. Best part? We boxed up all the leftovers and passed them out to homeless folk encamped under an overpass. It was blustery and raining and I just kept thinking, I bet it hit the spot. smileys/smile.gif

A friend and I did that for my birthday years ago, it was so fun! We had 12 people and 8 different

mac'n cheeses. The favorite one was the classic southern version with a custard base and an entire pound of sharp cheddar on the top of the macaroni. I did like my version with bechamel, sauteed mushrooms and truffled salt.

Re: Cake... While I really appreciate the time, effort and thought.... It just doesn't work for me.

Kind of like when I wake up in the middle of the night and want an iced tea, only to find out that my dh put her milk glass there. ....
