You know, it really irks me that all the butt half hams I find now have been "scalped"

Good news, at least you get to pay more for less! Lots of packages going this way. Have you LOOKED

carefully at packages of cereal, rice, orange juice, crackers etc.? Same price, same "sized" package, but it holds about 20% less than before. Way o' the world, I'm afraid.

Let's try again: Out her if they are not "scalped" of those center slices. . .

The advertise the hams as "full half hams."

To my way of thinking they should advertise the scalped ones as partial half hams, because half ham means half ham!

Here it depends on the brands. Some do that, some don't. Gotta say though that sometimes it's nice

to buy just the center piece slice for smaller meals or when you're not quite up for "eternity is a ham and 2 people".

You are so right, remember the "large economy size"? Now we have to do the math. sigh

What I find really dishonest and confusing is when they use different units even sometimes within the same brand so that to do the math you have to have a blinkin' calculator to know what you are paying per unit.

I actually saw a local market label their eggs "per unit" on a dozen, and...

..."per ounce" on the 18-pack.

I mentioned it to the assistant manager and he seemed clueless as to why anyone would care.

What does it say that I'm more than half a century old and have never bought a ham?

Or doesn't it say anything? I'm talking about the pinkish smoked ham that shows up every Easter.

Oh wait...years ago I bought an 8-lb "fresh picnic" to make Debbie in GA's "12-hour roast". I always thought of it as a muntant hunk of pork and not really ham.

Does that count? Or am I still a ham virgin?
