Well, I’m supposed to be getting rid of stuff. So I bought a cake stand…

Yeah, that’s right. I was at Goodwill and I saw this large footed cake plate and it was so pretty and sparkled. I have a smaller green depression glass footed cake plate but this one was big, 12 1/2 inches wide and I could just imagine a 10 inch layer cake sitting on a sideboard for a nice wedding at somebody’s home in the 1940s. So of course now I need to get 10 inch cake pans to make this giant cake, but I just think it will look so pretty. I couldn’t get a shot of how glittery it is in the sun, but I laid it on the sheet so you could see the design. I looked it up and it is Indiana glass “flowers in a basket” pattern. Hello I’m a boomer, lol.

Don't buy more pans. Use 9" pans for the cake and add fru-fru around a 10" cardboard base.

I love cake stands, but they always seems to have a slight raised rim which annoys me when I want to slice a cake lifter/spatula underneath to lift.

If you haven't noticed, it takes very little to annoy me.

So...just curious...WHERE are you going to put this new little "can't live without it" gem?

This actually has the opposite. But I know what you mean about that annoying lip. Here the outermost rim you see is actually about 1/4 inch lower, with all of the center being smooth. So no lip.

I also got at gw a cabinet organizer, so I can stand all my platters, chargers, and this, on its side in the lower level of my China cabinet vs stacked. When the whole dang family is together, a larger cake will be warranted. Just locally we have 14. All family w long time friends is 50-75. (I use to seat 45 for tg dinner back in the day.)

I’d always thought that lip was to accommodate the cardboard under a cake and keep it from slipping. All my really old cake stands don’t have that lip.

What I actually went to Goodwill for, was a dip bowl that will accommodate a larger batch. I had all my stuff laid out on the floor and saw that unbelievably I didn’t have a bowl the right size for this. I ended up finding a Nambe* trI-corner bowl, I’m going to attempt to polish that today (wish me luck! as I have been known to ruin pewter in the past) and as back up a beautiful clear crystal Valleroy and Bach, both were five dollars each.

*My sil has metal serve ware pieces, so I have some too, so our potluck tables don’t look like a potluck.
