I’m thinking of getting a new KA, but wow they make it difficult

Well, I had to order one to see the pink in person. You’d think they’d at least give vendors samples of the colors they don’t carry in store, but they don’t. So I picked a store with the easiest and closest return.

I ordered the 7qt in feather pink, the paler version vs the dried rose bc it might go better w my 1959 ge pink cooktop and oven. We shall see. it’s a matte finish 🤨. I’m still quite unsure about this model as a lot of of the reviews reference, they don’t make them like they used to. And I’m unhappy you can’t get the DC motor with the 7 quart anymore. So I’m heavily leaning towards buying the commercial 8 quart. It can be found refurbished for less than this model (brand new) and because the motor is metal and DC and the attachments are stainless steel versus the enamel coated there are far less bad reviews, both new and refurbished. My tilt head I bought refurbished from KitchenAid and though it’s had issues, it’s always worked. Though my neighbor’s ka, same model, bought brand new is much quieter and has no vibration compared to mine. at the time I bought refurbished because I have the brushed nickel model, which was ridiculously more expensive than the regular finish. And ain’t nobody wanting to pay that.

Anyhoo, the pink model should arrive sometime late next week and I’ll take pictures and give an update 😁

Also, I don’t know why all these years I thought the lift model would not fit under my cabinet. I measured and it’s supposed to be 16 1/2 inches tall (even the 8qt commercial) and I have a 17 inch clearance, so it will be close, but it should fit. (Admittedly I use to have a shelf there, so maybe that was why.)

UPDATE: I just watched America’s test kitchen review from three months ago where the 7 qt “with redesigned touched points” came w all the beaters, dough hook, etc.in stainless steel steel and includes a pastry blender paddle. That model is $30 cheaper than the one I just bought “on sale” with the enamel attachments.

Also, and KitchenAid doesn’t advertise this anywhere, ATK says you’re not to mix bread dough on a speed higher than two, for two minutes at a time, and no more than four minutes IN TOTAL i’m starting to wonder if buying a KitchenAid mixer is worth it at all anymore. The warranty online, says it only covers parts (not labor too) and I noticed on the KitchenAid website. It said they would accept returns in “unused condition” for 60 days. 😳 What is going on here?

I know - my bread isn't ready after four minutes. I do tend to give it 5 or so minutes then finish by hand, but that constraint is a bit too much for me. Trusting in the health of my 25 yo KA.

I used my 5 qt lift bowl yesterday to make a batch of Dahlia Bakery’s Devils Food cupcakes. Recipe is for 12, so i doubled it. First step is beating 4 egg yolks with sugar. The blade barely hit the mixture. Then I had to drizzle in oil. Cranked up the speed and it smelled like rubber burning.

Now this mixer could be 20 years old. But it has ALWAYS smelled like this…which is one reason I rarely use it.

PS: the cupcake batter folds in 200 grams of chopped dark chocolate pieces as well as the cocoa. Yet I don’t like the taste. Can’t figure that one out.

Aren’t lift bowls height adjustable? I don’t think it’s as easy as a tilt head, if I recall you have to turn it over and adjust from inside of the stand? The burning smell, hummmm. I’d look up if Mr. Mixer on YouTube has a video on that, why yes I have gone into the weeds lately watching his ka repair videos. It could be an oil leak/overflow, which seem to be very common. He has repair videos on pretty much anything that could go wrong on a ka and says all are fixable.
