An edible hug

Yesterday I naively leaned over and suddenly my sciatica nerve (one of 7 trillion nerves) revolted. Searing pain flared with each twist, turn, or spinal bend. It took several Advil, a Lidocaine patch and a heating pad before I could move like a normal bipod.

To that end, I decided to raid the refrigerator and prepare the edible version of a quote a friend once sent:

Some days you just need a hug and a grilled cheese cut on the diagonal.

Deb Perelman’s tomato Soup and my grilled cheese sandwich:

La Brea Jalapeño Cheddar bread
Vermont extra sharp cheddar
Oaxaca queso
Dijon country mustard.

Hug administered.

Awww Hugs to you! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

(I had the same nerve experience trying to ice those cookies last night. Slept w pillow between my knees.)

Ohh, the pain (and boredom) caused by disabilities. I am feeling for you too.

I am getting to the end of my wanting to deal with dinner every night. I just don't know what else to do and I have run out of things to warm up from the freezer. On top of that, my contributions from friends and neighbours, of various chicken soups, have run out. Friends offer to take me to restaurants for dinner, but I'm afraid that we would both be ejected because of my Newly acquired eating behavior, reminiscent of a 2 year old.

A friend with a walk in shower. Offers a shower and dinner But there is A limit. To the number of times I can take advantage of that. It is an eye opener, to realize how much the loss of one hand Can limit creativity or in fact just minimal productivity. My flight down the stairs, Back first, Resulted in two broken ribs. One Ominously injured shin bone That is now developing into some new and unique liability. A Very painful bruise the size of France expanding down one hip and leg. A broken wrist...the most of the annoyances, Possible concussion since I am so dizzy right now…will know soon.. nasty bruised tailbone. Black eye. And Resultant. Disinterest in. Doing anything in the kitchen. It would probably not be so overwhelming if the wrist that is broken were not my useful wrist, as in my right wrist. But of course, not so. And if the ribs that broke were either both at the front or both on one side., but no. I had to Make sure this was going to be was well-balanced pain. BUT no lost teeth yet

I have neighbors to open pill bottles for me but I can't even open a can except sometimes pull tops , and then only with a great deal of help from extra tools. But Only thing I have in flip top cans is cat food. None of the labels is tempting me ,no matter how creatively the flavours are described (for the illiterate beasts).

So anyway, you get the idea…..i am useless.

If anyone has any ideas on enjoyable. And healthful frozen meals. I would be very grateful to know what they are. I am a bit concerned about not eating well enough to get over this as i can't chop/slice anything at all. Pain and physical inability….one thing. But not enjoying eating is a serious loss. Tank goodness somewhat decent wine is now available in a box. That I can operate.

So food:
P f chang ….. any good?

Mama somebody?
not mac & cheese

I have no experience with this type of pre prepared food.

Tonight: blueberry pancakes and bacon. Note the overload of green veg in that meal. I'm looking forward to seeing how well I can whip an egg with my left hand with nothing to hold the bowl but a damp cloth.

Oh Marg - I am ever so sorry for what you are going through. Certainly physically. But mentally too. Although I don't have brands to recommend, I would think that the prepared foods section of your grocery, in addition to the frozen section, could offer a more appealing offering. May this soon be behind you.

Do you have “Meals on Wheels” in Canada? Because in your current state you’d certainly qualify. They deliver meals to people in exactly your circumstance. Check with social services to find out. They also likely have someone to come help w everyday things you can’t do right now like cleaning, cooking, and bathing.

Do you have a stand mixer? Because you might need to use that for more everyday items. Food processor too. Think of new ways to do things. I went a month without bathing when I had casts on both legs till I realized I could scoot backwards into the tub propping one leg on the toilet and the other on the tub spout.

((((((hugs)))))))

if there is anything I can mail, do let me know!

I dunno....is he good-looking and a decent cook? (probably not if he can fit into an envelope)

oh marg...wow, I thought only your wrist was the issue. Not your ribs, legs, face, tailbone, wrist…basically your entire skeleton is one big, painful Issue.

PF Chang is okay for flavor…but high in calories and sodium from preservatives. I like Zatarains, but it’s mostly pasta with a little meat. Also high in sodium.

Sukhi’s Indian meals are enjoysble, mainly because they include a naan with each serving. And they indicate how hot the dish is on the cover. Hint: There is NEVER that much meat per serving.

Perhaps your senior citizens office can help in how to apply for assistance until you can get around.
